Website says "AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER Expected delivery in late July". Now.... does that mean that if you order one, it will be shipped to you in late July? Or does it mean that CMMG expects delivery to them from suppliers in late July?

By the way... it's late July right now.

Also, curious about the proprietary barrel nut and barrel nut wrench that will ship out with these...

Yes.... how will these barrel nuts be secured on the .22LR uppers if there's no gas tube to anchor it. Inquiring minds want to know.

Am I missing something here? Since when are barrel nuts anchored using gas tubes?

Well...it's not primarily anchored using the gas tube, but the gas tube keeps does run through one of the holes and acts as a poor backup to the torque applied. If you put enough torque on a forward vertical grip, you could possibly turn the handguard and barrel nut. The gas tube would only allow the barrel nut to rotate a short distance. Short of a bracket barrel nut anchor system like the expensive LaRue proprietary system uses (straddles the receiver body and pins into the barrel nut), I guess all barrel nuts are merely anchored by torque. But because the .22 has no gas tube, the barrel nut and handguard would be held by torque only.

I believe that CMMG has mentioned before that the new handguard will have a proprietary barrel nut, so I'm just trying to get some upfront info before mine arrives in the mail. Sorry for any confusion.

I see your point, and I have seen the round (YHM, Hogue, AA, LB, etc.) handguards
with shorty rails at the front, and with sling adapters, twist when a sling was used. But I never
have seen, or have happened to me, a case where a properly torqued barrel nut - either on
a centerfire nor a rimfire build - came loose!

If this is a big concern there is an excellent, but expensive expensive solution I have first
hand experience with. I have a Noveske 5:56x45 18" with a VLTOR MUR upper and an
SWS handguard. The handguard has an anti-rotational pin that inserts into a hole above
the gas tube. It uses a special barrel nut also. This is the only system I know of that eliminates
the possibility you describe.

CMMG has responded to me in an email that deliveries of these Slim Line handguards are now expected in late August.

Will have a handful of wrenches on Monday. If they look.good, we can get some shipped. We will be flooded with wrenches in a couple weeks. BTW, we have some new hanguard panels under development.

Any word on a 7.5' piston upper with these rails?
