Old drop in with new Evolution upper
I have just about decided not to do this, and toss my old drop in kit in with my hunting AR to use as a dedicated way to shoot heavier subsonic rounds in it.
I was curious, can I make my older drop in bolt run with a new Evolution upper? It is not a stainless version and is a couple years old. I get the feeling the anti jam chargng handle in the evolution upper would not work with the older drop in bolt I have. I do see where the upper is offered for $100 less if you do not need the bolt group, but as I already said I have decided to most likely keep the drop in as is and order a complete upper.
Just curious before we decide what route to go. I know we will end up with about 5 of these uppers, just want to get the facts first as we do have a couple of drop in kits.
It should work with a new collar. You won't have the features of the new Evolution but I see no reason it should not work.

Thanks for the info. I am just concerned due to the fact there are two verions of the latch out there.
The two different versions of the charging handle are one for .22 dedicated(no gas tube) and the other for a 5.56 conversion(hole in the end to accomodate the gas tube).
