Just wanted to take a moment to thank Magpul for joining the Spirit of Blue Foundation as a Safety Grant Sponsor this year. Through their involvement, not only is Magpul helping to spread the word about the officer safety issues that our law enforcement community face, but they are standing ready to supply product to law enforcement agencies who use Spirit of Blue Safety Grant Program funds to purchase firearms accessories.

To help Magpul support the effort please consider purchasing a Spirit of Blue Wreath. Or, if that isn't what you are interested in, visit the site just to learn more about our work and see how you might contribute to honoring the law enforcement community and standing up to keep safe those who serve.

A special thanks to the good Doctor and Drew for your support!

I lost a buddy in 2008 and one of my academy classmates was killed last year. It was a freak boating accident. He was patrolling a lake when a rogue wave hit the side of the boat. He hit his head and the other deputy was thrown overboard. By the time a boat passing by got the deputy and brought him back to the patrol boat, Dean was already dead.

I will be buying 2 wreaths tomorrow to honor them.

Ryan,
I thought I remembered if you purchased a wreath for an agency they automatically got put in for a safety grant lottery. How do I go about doing this? I don't see any mention of this lottery in the wreath section.

Yes, agencies can be nominated to receive grants at the conclusion of our Wreath Campaign (still have until December 19th to order). Nominations can be made on the Safety Grant page.

I, myself, was a Reserve Officer in a city of 80,000 on the West Coast. We lost 2 officers just from natural causes while I was on the road. I can't imagine how it must feel to lose a brother or sister from an LOD. My heart goes out to those who have gone through it.

There are many charities that exist to aid survivors and memorialize those who were lost. Those groups do tremendous and valuable work. The Spirit of Blue, however, is focused on the preventative side of the equation - trying to reduce the number of officers lost by filling the gap that exists between current funding and the full need. Incredible advances in equipment and training exist, but they are costly. We believe that the general public has a responsibility to stand in that gap and not only honor officers for their service but give officers the best equipment and training possible to remain safe as they go about their duties.

I appreciate everyone's support and willingness to be involved. Make sure and nominate an agency to receive a grant. We are also looking at creating a need-based grant program next year that agencies can apply for based on the merit of their need. There are some extremely hard hit areas in the US that are having difficult marshalling even enough funds for duty weapons and ballistic vests. We have to make sure these officers have what they need, so want to create a method for need to be a key factor in channeling the grant funds, too.

Thanks for the reply Randy. I'll buy 2 wreaths tonight when I get home. I also have 2 departments to nominate.

I was a sworn Auxiliary officer for 3.5 years before leaving LE due to back problems. I lost one of my academy classmates last year to a freak boating accident while he was on duty. My old department lost an officer about a year after I left. I knew the officer, he was a great guy. It took a devastating toll on the department as a whole.

Thanks for everything you and the Spirit of Blue due.
It is great to see a company like Magpul supporting our boys and girls in blue through your program.

rookie421, thanks for ordering the wreaths and helping the cause! Today is the last day to order. We will be working to identify and notify the winners of the Safety Equipment Grants and will announce those to the public in February.

Stay safe,
Ryan
