Iphone Case - Putting off Oil?
I have noticed that the inside of my Magpul Iphone case is always oily. I thought it might be the Zagg screen protector I had on the back of the Iphone, so I took that off. No dice. The Iphone/case is still oily... so much so that the Phone is covered in an oily liquid. It seems like it may even be enough to pop the moisture tester in the phone and void the warranty.
Anyone else have this problem?
Just took my case off for the first time in maybe six months. Nope, dry as a bone.
Note, I don't keep mine in my pocket but in a leather case on my belt.
Mine does the same thing. Never really worried about it though.
mine does it too.
I always wondered why those Magpul guys were so slick.
Mine was oily and nasty inside.
A quick wipe down and I'm GTG.

This happens to some peoples cases. We don't know why other than it is something in the users environment. For example it has never happened to me but our CCO has it all the time. In any case it is mineral oil and will not harm anything.
Is it leaching out of the polymer?

I've noticed this too. It seems like condensation from the phone getting warm then cooling down and nowhere to escape. It just feels greasy because of the smooth faced polymer on the inside of the case.
It happens to mine too, and it is definitely oil, not condensation.
Mines dry, I work outside in all types of weather too
Mine is oily here in Florida but gets wiped off every so often. Didn't seem like a big deal but I always wondered what causd it too. Mineral oil?
I get the oily stuff too.
I noticed it only does that when I talk into the phone like a mic (with headphones that I recently bought), it hasn't otherwise.
I've had it with rubber cases as well, I believe it's just from the environment. I'm in humid Florida.
Clearly, your particular brand of Iphone is out of spec.
I had a Oakley rubber case for my Iphone and it did the same thing so this is not limited to just Magpul
Its body oil.

Exactly. As you hold the nice smooth iPhone screen to your face as you talk, you may build up some oils on it. So most people will wipe it off, right? As you're wiping it, tiny amounts are most likely collecting in between the 2 surfaces, not to mention the screen lip acting as a small squeegie. That's what I feel at least.
Does the color matter? I just bought a orange one for my phone.
Soylent lube.
The rubber ends on my Oakely shades will become oily if they sit for a long while with no use. I wonder if it's somehow the polymer/rubber is reacting with a type of environment and seeping.
Like others said, body oil from your face.
I don't have an iPhone, and I get the same thing on my phones that I have owned. Oil on the display of my flip phone's.
You would be 100% wrong. The oil only occurs in the dead center of the back of the phone.
I left the case at home in a drawer since I started this post. I checked it last night, and the case was oily. I havent touched it since I took it off and wiped it down a week ago. The case is creating the oil, no question.
I also had our IT guys check the moisture sensors on the phone. None of them are fully red, but a couple had a pink tinge. Obviously, I cant say for sure what made the moisture sensors show moisture––I do live in Arkansas, which can be pretty humid. However, I have never gotten my phone wet. Thus, out of an abundance of caution, I have to assume that the case could be partially responsible and discontinue using it.
mheee....I ordered my iphone case on the day the put them on the site and it's been setting in there abused and ignored till this thread. I pulled it out, wiped it down and It's still ticking fine.
Mine is new, but is very oily on the back of the phone when I pull it out of the case. Even if I take it out, wipe down the phone+case, reinsert it and then pull it right back out it is oily.
Didn't you guys hear? That oil is Costa's sweat and it will cure whatever ails ya!
Mine is doing the same thing. It is clearly not oil from me, because it is only on the back and not the sides. Now that I have quit using it, it's has a chalky residue all over it. It's weird!!
I have the same issue but I only get moisture behind the phone when I carry it in my front pants pocket. No moisture occurs when I carry it in a side pouch, jacket or shirt pocket. Happens more in the summer. So this tells me my body heat is contributing to this.
Mine and the wifes does it. Mine sits in a leather case and her's either in her purse or out in the open. Wife noticed it the other day than asked if mine was doing it.
Who would have thought that Magpul would put the U.S. on the path to oil independence?
My 3GS used to do that with the Magpul case, my 4S doesn't do it and I still use the Magpul case. Not sure what the difference is, but it never hurt my 3GS, so I'm not real worried. I keep my phone on me all the time; even when I get in the shower I leave it on the vanity in the bathroom and you can't get much more humid than inside the bathroom during a hot shower. That phone is over a year old and still works perfectly with no signs of ill affects from the humidity or from the "oil" residue that builds up inside the case. I've gone months at a time without taking the case off and the residue never seems to increase in volume after a certain point. It's not like it leaks out or anything, it just gets a little filmy and that's about it.
I always just attributed it to condensation, but I guess it could be Magpul's mind control sirum (crack-pul is the scientific name) that they built into the case. I have noticed that since buying the case for my 3GS, I have had an uncontrollable need to outfit all of my rifles with as much Magpul stuff as possible, so maybe there's something to this...
That or their shit is just that good...
