Please bare with me all. This is my first build and first post. I have been reading/looking around this amazing website and just had a few questions before I place me order in the next few weeks.

I have a stripped DTI 5.56 lower and am interested in this kit. The kit has everything that I need so thats why I'm buying it. My next build will be a lil more highend. Just building this kit to get me into the whole "AR" thing... lol.

Barrel- standard 1x9 chrome-moly barrel vs. 1x7 chrome lined vs. 1x9 chrome lined
I was wondering on what the barrel twist means?
Ive been thinking if I would get the chrome lined or standard chrom-moly barrel. I have read that chrome lined effects accuracy. Does it really? I also read that it doubles the life of the barrel. Not sure what that means.

Bolt and Carrier- Standard or Chrome
Is it only for easy cleaning?
Is the firing pin Chrome too?
Is it worth it?

Flash Hiders-
How do I find out if I need it pinned and welded?
Does it make up the 16" of the barrel?

Gas Blocks-
If I get the standard front sight that the kit comes with, can I change it out later on if wanted?
Even if I have the flash hider pinned and welded?

Standard or 2 stage trigger kit-
Whats the difference?

Charging Handle-
Whats a badger tac latch purpose?
Does it really make it easier?

DTI lower- 5.56 cal
What mags will fit the lower?
Are all mags standard?

I know these questions are dumb but I've been told "the only dumb question is the one not asked..." just looking for a few tips, advise or even direction. If there is a forum that answer these questions point me in the right direction. Again I am very happy that I have decided to have an account on this site.

Thanks for your time... And I look forward to this build...

I was wondering on what the barrel twist means? its the rate of twist of the rifling one full twist for every 7 inches or 9
Ive been thinking if I would get the chrome lined or standard chrom-moly barrel. I have read that chrome lined effects accuracy. Does it really? I also read that it doubles the life of the barrel. Not sure what that means. my deltons are standard. they are more accurate, but only a slight margin at long ranges 300+yrds but CL makes them last longer. they are talking about 5000 to 10000 rounds

Bolt and Carrier- Standard or Chrome
Is it only for easy cleaning?
Is the firing pin Chrome too?
Is it worth it? mine are standard, but i clean mine every time. if you dont its easier to clean

Flash Hiders-
How do I find out if I need it pinned and welded? your state laws. or read in the hometown section and post about it
Does it make up the 16" of the barrel?

Gas Blocks-
If I get the standard front sight that the kit comes with, can I change it out later on if wanted?its not that easy. u can use a scope with the FSB the scope will see right through the FSB
Even if I have the flash hider pinned and welded?

Standard or 2 stage trigger kit-
Whats the difference?the standard has about a 6-8 pound trigger pull ... two stage makes it very smooth. may be worth it to u, but you can change it out later with no big deal.

Charging Handle-
Whats a badger tac latch purpose?
Does it really make it easier? i dont use it. mine is standard

DTI lower- 5.56 cal
What mags will fit the lower?
Are all mags standard? yes

i see you are in CA. you are going to have to build on a OLL and have a bullet button installed.

Thanks for the fast response.

Yes I know about the bullet button. but not the OLL what's that?

going back to the gas block. Should I just get one with a rail instead so I can install a folding front sight later?

Thanks agian, I am going to slow down on this build and double check my state laws. I hate Cali. because of our strict laws on everything. but I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Off List Lower. the only legal lowers in CA. the only reason i know about this law is that all my lowers are from Kaiser Defense in San Diego. they are awesome lowers and they are OLL's but they are not made anymore. do a search for OLL on google.

the rail...... rails are great if thats what you want. do u want all sorts of stuff hanging off your rifle? i didnt, so i got it all standard. looking back, id get a rail or two and a FSB, because i like having a carry handle, because i shoot comps with mine and u must use iron sights. if you are gonna get optics like a reflex sight, then BUIS are good to have. if not and u r gonna use a scope, you can leave on the FSB

theres like a million ways to do it. read up for a few months. i didnt really figure out what i wanted first, and then i got into range shooting and found out later that i really wanted a 20 inch rifle, so i bought one of those. now i have two rifles and dont tell my wife, but im pretty sure i'll have another one before summer.

Again thanks for the advice. I saw kaiser lowers but didnt know much about them. I was at the gun show and the guy there was not really informed on that lower. I'll have to look at them again.

I'm building a 16" rifle for fun. But my next build will be a 308 20" more for target/ hunting.

But like you and I feel others. the wife doesnt know about my 16" build nor the 20" build. lol... she nags about me having too many guns. really how can one person have TOO many guns... lol.... she just doesnt understand. I try to explain to her that how she loves shoes... I love guns...

But I always end up on the couch with the dog and a ...

Hi, I'm in california too. I have an m4 kit I built. The main thing I went with is the chrome lined barrel. From everything I have heard chrome lined is easier to clean and it tends to be more reliable especially with steel case ammo. My rifle has gone through about a thousand rounds mainly russian steel case ammo. Mine is 1 in 9 and is more accurate than I am.

I don't bother with chrome BCGs. Standard has been plenty easy to clean for me. But personally, I'd drop in a BCM BCG instead. The bolt is MP inspected.

Flash Hiders-
You only need to have your FH pinned and welded if you have a 14.5 or <16" barrel length. If you have a 16", you are fine.

Gas Blocks-
I'd get a standard FSB gas block. If you need it low profile and have a welded FH, you can always dremel it to a smaller one. Commonly down around here.

Standard or 2 stage trigger kit-
2 stages are nice and more for precision rifle, but I'd start off with just the standard trigger. IMO, it is more durable in the long run.

Charging Handle-
I don't care for the badger-latch. Try standard CH first.

DTI lower- 5.56 cal
Yes all mags are standard. Some lowers have drop free issues, but 99% of the time you'll be fine.

Since this is your first build, start simple and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE with your rifle. You'll change your mind what you want on it the more you use it. Don't buy parts and accessories you aren't sure you want yet. Also, buy some spare parts to keep your weapon running.

jammer and everyone else- thanks for the great input. I look forward to building it. I was told by a couple of buddies to build it standard then add on what I want. Start basic then go big.

I'm already looking my next build. which is going to be a AR10. If you guys have any tips on lowers and parts. let me know.

Thanks again with all the great info.
