Building my first Ar15, a few questions regarding the Del-Ton kit options...

Hey everyone, I'm looking to build my first AR and have been doing as much research as I can.

I have a few questions. First of all, I'm pretty sure I read that if I'm going with a flat top, then for the gas block I should go with the F-marked front sight base. Is this correct?

I was set on a midlength system but now doing a bit more research, I'm starting to read that if, God forbid, I had to carry this thing for long distances, weight can really become an issue. I'd love to hear advantages and disadvantages of the lightweight and M4 barrels.

Also for the upper, if I'm understanding correctly, the flat top with M4 feed ramps makes the AR system more reliable and the T-marks would allow me to remove and remount an optic without having to resight. If this is correct, I'm going with the M4 feed ramps for more reliability. I also wanted to find out why it isn't possible to have both M4 feed ramps and T-marks?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I am going to order my first Del-Ton kit as well, most likely today actually. I can't answer most of your questions as I'm very new to ARs, but I do know that the t-marked uppers have M4 feed ramps but it just doesn't list them as having such (I know this is true for the 16" barrels, and I would assume the same for the 20"s as well). I sent them an email and that was the response I got for all 16" barrels.

So you're saying that the T-marks upper also includes M4 feed ramps?

Yes, I confirmed that for the 16" barrels and I would assume that it is the same for the 20" as well. T-marking is just a painting process I think, I don't know why it would change the internals.

Yes, if you're getting the flat top upper, then you'll want the F marked front sight base. All of our flat top uppers now have M4 feed ramps, so as long as you've got a flat top, you'll have both the feed ramps and T-Marks.
Hope that helps a little!

Thanks very much, Kassandra. That's exactly what I wanted to know.

tell ya what. i have a 16 middy hbar non CL 1x9 flat top, no feed ramps. that thing shoots so nice it aint funny. never jams i can use any ammo, but i stick with xm193 for consistancy.

i also have a 20 hbar non CL 1x9 flat top w/feed ramps and that thing is a real beast. i wouldnt wanna carry it for long distances, but if i take off the A2 rear and put my 50mm scope on there, i can reach way out. ohh and it looks super cool with my LanCay M-9 bayo mounted.

I run the Lightweight on a 16"carbine setup. Absolutely love it. Build for carry for sure.

I don't have alot of experience with other setups, so i can't say it is more or less balanced than others. What i can say is I have let two friends with minimal shooting experience and they both shot it like they were pros. They both mentioned how nice it shoots and how easy handling it is...Go AR's and Go Del-Ton!

I don't do a ton of mag dumps so I don't know is the Lightweight heats too quickly for sure, but currently I have had no problems with the barrel getting too hot. If you are just doing training drills and such, I don't think it will be a problem.

Mine was pretty warm after 5 round sighting bursts on my 20, after about 190 rounds in the course of about 30 minutes it was pretty hot; it got hot enough to make Wolf stick in the chamber and be VERY uncomfortable to touch the gas block. Handguards stayed ambient temperature though, which was effing awesome for me.

so does this mean the a2 uppers do not have the m4 feed ramps? Only the flattops have the m4 ramps?
