Barrel profile of 16" Dissipator?
Happy owner of a DT 20" government profile upper here. I'm thinking of building a relatively lightweight KISS AR for my next build. I have settled on a Cav Arms MKII lower and a DT upper. I'm thinking Dissipator since I plan to stick with irons only. What is the barrel profile of the Dissipator? Can you tell me the ~ weight with these specs of your Product Code: CU112 :
# Custom Upper -BC:Standard Bolt & Carrier
# Custom Upper -St Handguards:Standard Handguard - Black
# Custom Upper -Gas Block:Standard A2 Front Sight
# Custom Upper -Flash Hider:A2 Flash Hider
# Custom Upper -Upper:A2 Upper
# Custom Upper -Charging Handle:Standard Charging Handle
# Custom Upper -Carrying Handle:None
Also would you anticipate any cycling issues since the Dissipator uses a rifle length gas system but the Cav arms lower uses a carbine length buffer?
DelTon stated it's a heavy profile under the handguards. I can't remember where I saw the pic, but it is QUITE heavy, and is not what I'd be looking at for a lightweight build.
Dissapator does NOT use a rifle length gas system. It's a ground down gas block on a carbine length, with a non-functional gas block at the end of the barrel.

I'm far from an AR expert, but I saw a post from "Laura" from Delton here http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=100&t=191228 That she states their Dissapator runs a rifle length gas system.
Yep I went to the Technical Specs for the Dissipator and saw it was a heavy profile. It looks like the backup plan is the lightweight barrel in a mid length!
The Dissapator does have a rifle length gas system and it is considered "heavy under the handguards", but technically it is a little more than .750".
Hope that helps.

First I've seen a "Dissapator" with a true blue rifle gas sytem
I know CMMG is offering a 16" barrel with a rifle gas, but that's all that I've seen prior.
I realize this is a D-T forum and all but if you want a lightweight Dissy Bushmaster makes an M4 Dissipator that is government profile under the handgaurds. Curiously though they dont assemble them into uppers. PK Firearms has built some in the past and may still have them.
All that said I have an H Bar Dissipator with a rifle receiver extension and A1 length stock. It balances very nicely and is the softest smoothest shooting AR I own. I wouldn't cal it light but it is also not so heavy as to be troubling.

Can you give me approximate weights for an A2 Dissipator upper and and A2 mid length with lightweight barrel upper?
The difference is going to be 3/4 to 1lb difference in weight. We don't have any built up, so when I get a chance I will go gather the parts to weigh them.

Laura,
Did you ever get a weight on the LW midlength upper? Also any idea if they you are going to offer a CL LW midlength barrel soon? I just picked up my cav arms lower and I'm itching to do a lightweight build

Do you offer chrome lining on the dissapator barrels? Didn't see one online. Thanks,

Standard birdcage A2 hider weighs .1270
VLTOR VC-1 weighs .1278
YHM Phantom 5C2 weighs .1328
I then weighed a 16" M4 upper with standard options, which BCG and charging handle = 4.0164lbs.
Then barrels with just the FSB (no guts), HG cap, and barrel nut...
14.5" M4 barrel =1.9894
16" M4 barrel =2.1424
16" LW barrel = 2.0068
16" H-barrel = 2.5608
16" MID H-barrel = 2.6736
16" MID LW barrel = 2.0348
20" H-barrel = 3.2656
20" LW barrel = 2.3788
20" Gov't profile barrel = 2.5820
Hope that helps!

Looks like the weight of a LW middy upper would be 3.9 pounds-4 pounds depending upon flash hider selection.

We are going to check into some other barrels, so I'll post again in a few days when I find out what is next.
Thanks Guys!!
