Is a weaponslight a good idea for a pig rig?
Putting the finishing touches on the hoggun and was just curious to know if having a lightweight weaponslight was a good idea.
Since I will not have the funds for NV anytime soon (saving to buy a house), I would imagine a lot of my time huntng for these vernom would be in at early dawn and late dusk.
Do hogs have the same response as the "deer in headlights" phenomena?
If you are hunting froma static position and the hogs would be say 75 yards or farther away I might forgoe the light however, if you are moving through the brush a light is a good thing to have if you are worried a pig might charge out of knowwhere in the dark.
I'd recomment a poor mans scout light if I was you, Buy a Surefire E2D defender and slap a KX2C head on it a bam you have essentially a 450$ light on our rifle for about 225$ not including the mount. and that will peirce through darkness like you read about, I feel comfortable taking 75 yard body shots on a hog for sure with that light, and if its a really big hod maybe 100 yards if you are good.
I use a light.
"MUST HAVE" item.... for most hog hunting applications.
Wow, sound like it is pretty much settled.
Love the idea of the E2e Defender and the more powerful head assembly. Just so happens I have one with a Vltor mount. Simple switch and and the Polytac heads to the XCR.
Yep, you def need a light. I prefer to use a streamlight taclight ( good for 100 + yards and costs around 85$, minus mount) with a red filter (homemade) on mine.

How did you make the "homemade" red filter?

Yeah, I would like to know that as well.

Ive used clear red plastic sheet cut the same size as the lens and installed on exterior. sheet is available at craft stores for a few bucks.
took a green permanent marker ta mine.... did the bulb, inside shield an lense.... but if had the money.... would go a different route...
streamlight weapons light
Green filter
I also use the
streamlight enduro green headlamp attached to the brim of my hat so I can see my gear in the blind.
The Streamlight Polytac LED HP has excellent throw and would make a good light. You can find them for about $40 shipped on ebay.
I bought a used Surefire M962 and put a 225 lumen bulb in it –– it throws like a MF, like having a portable spotlight. I think it was around $80.

Actually went back to the PolyTac for the hoggun. Decided the Surefire's dual illumination of the GX2 series was not beneficial for this application and possibly a detriment.
