I'm in the thought process of shopping for a good hog gun to put together and have ready by December for hog hunting in Texas. Looking at all my options, my top choices would be a 6.8 AR upper, FAL, Cetme or G3, .308 AR, or a PSL. From what I see, I can put together a PSL for cheaper than the others and about half of that of a FAL or AR10––the only thing I don't like is that it doesn't come apart for travel but I can make myself get over that to save $400 or more on the build price. Does anyone here use a PSL for hogs, and if so what did you think of it? Does it handle fast enough to take down multiple hogs in a group?
PSL is excellent for hogs. I used one predominately for about a year. I also purchased an upgraded optic from Kalinka optics which the larger objective was invaluable for night time use. the ammo used was Russian 7N1 and did an incredible job. also used Russian LB which is available now in quantity.
you tube video of same hogs killed at 137 yrds and 200 yrds. hit a 3rd one as the went in the tree line. was not able to find it as it got too dark in thick underbrush.
PSL Piggies
I found my new best friend with a Romanian PSL. He is also in my avatar with pigman.

PSL is a budget AR10 (in my opinion) which is why I bought. AR10 is 100 times better. Mounting optics is miserable and attaching lights is best done with cheap chinese barrel mounts (I always use blue loctite on all screws so they work for me).
My posts in Romanian forum are archived so I can not link to them for how I stopped mount from moving (hex screw).
Cost of weapon is small part of ownership. Ammo is real cost if you shoot all the time. I buy LB by the case at .20 each vs min of .60 to.75 for 308. I still want a 308 ar10.
What optics are you going to use?
I really like the ammo cost as well, particularly as I'm thinking this will make an awesome range gun for taking out new shooters and/or for curing Fuddism.
lmc1016.... like your set up... got an old 303 been wanting ta get synthetic stock for... nother good weapon for hog hunten...

I'm officially in for a PSL, just ordered my parts kit last week.

I'm also in the process of inquiring as to whether any ammo makers will start producing 7N1 for us, since now the Russians are using 7N14. I wonder if Wolf or Brown Bear would do it. Any thoughts on this?
