A bear was shot yesterday with a crossbow in northeastern PA. 875 Live weight and 744 dressed #2 in the WORLD and a new PA State Record. He missed the world record by 4 pounds......

the bear is right around 9 feet and will need a grizzly mold when he gets it mounted

For anyone who bitches about the Pennsylvania Game Commission, I point to stuff like this - PA went from effectively zero bear population to world record black bear harvest in a few decades. And it's not a fluke - trophy sized bear are consistently harvested in PA.

But crossbow? Yeah, that's impressive.

Apparently this was a "wild" bear but was fairly tame and fed by a guy for 16 years. Apparently 3 hunters shot him 8 times with a bow.

The controversy is all ready starting about this bear. On another site.

Apparently there are several questions about the kill.

There was an old man that fed the bear for 16 years after its mother was killed by a car,

There are pictures of the old man hugging the bear on that other site. One of the party involved is there to digging himself into a hole.

The PGC is investigating it.

I guess everyone in the area knew about the tame bear and it seems the group of hunter that killed him may have known that also.

I think there are also some questions about safety zones.

I'm not sure what is heresay and what is fact but from what I've read, the story is starting to stink. It may make all hunters look bad in the end.

Just knowing that this bear has been fed by an old man for 16 years and then shot by someone taking advantage of it being tame, sickens me.

That is a huge bear Here's an article from the Pocono Record

Commission says record-breaking bear kill was OK

November 19, 2010

People in the Bushkill community are disgruntled today over the killing of a bear by a hunter near Fernwood on Monday. People in the community and posters on our PoconoRecord.com forums are saying that the bear's name is Bozo and he's been fed for years by a man authorities identify as Leroy.

But the Pennsylvania Game Commission says the hunter did nothing wrong.

Sounds like a legal kill with shady ethics. The guy feeding the bear for 16 years should have known better too. Leave nature alone, especially when it's an 879 pound black bear, lol.
