just about me and bear hunting(dead animles inside, graphic)
First check of the bait station....
ANNNNDDDDDD.... nothing
sure its only been 3 days, but it sucks driving upto the bait station to see the cover still on.
had a couple good vids of squirls on the camera tho
hung up a sent drip to try and jump start the station, prolly check it again on sunday.
and we have bear!
it only stands 5'8" tho, i know there are bigger ones on my land. he didnt tip over the bait crib tho, so i guess i have to get some better bait.
Looks like a nice one though! What are you using for bait?
right now, just dog food with honey and molasses poured over it. it brought them in the last time I was able to hunt.
I can sometimes get doughnuts from cub, but all the food stores are going anti hunting now so you have to talk to the right person.
i have a literal TON of honey from a buisness that closed, so i was hoping to use that for the most part.

Cool, if you have lots of honey you ought to try a honey burn while youre on stand.
i'v tried the honey(and a bacon) burn before, tho it never got one to come in.
called cub yesterday and they said they had some of the old doughnuts for bear bait, told em I was on my way to get em.
its a 30 min drive to town, went back to the bakery and " oh someone threw them out" well, F* you too!
so I gave them my name and number and told them to call me the next day and I would come and get it.
they did have old bananas on sale there, about a 5-10lbs bag for $1. so I bought 3 of those to try.
got home and made a 5 gal bucket of popcorn. re baited with the popcorn and a half gal of honey + the bananas. nothing on the camera...
went out today to check the box stand. its been up for 4 years now and has held up through some big storms. had a wind storm the other day but we've had worse so I didn't think anything of it.
but when I got to the stand, it was more then a little F'd up... two of the 2x6's that make up the support were pulled out of the tree and cracked. the mounts for the box were mangled and the box had fallen to the secondary support and got wedged between two of the tree trunks.
had to use the 4wheeler winch to pull the box out from between the tree. i'v firmed up the 2x6 supports and put the box back in place. will still re enforce the 2x6's (I like to over engineer things)
did pick up a bag of doughnuts today from cub. but because of the damage to the stand I re baited later then I would have like. after I got out to the bait station and turned off the wheeler, something big took off through the woods, wasn't too far from the bait.
nothing on the camera again, but i'v had the best luck before with the doughnuts so we'll see.
well, no bear today(first day of season)
but I did get to confirm zero on my rifle. was watching clash of the titans at about 10pm, Dog started going nutz. so I snatched up my bear gun(DPMS SASS in 6.8spc) snapped on my tac light and ran outside.
hit the light in the direction DAX was pointing...BIG raccoon in the back yard coming towards the house. lill bastard stood up when I hit him with the tac light, and I pumped one right in the 10 ring at about 20 yards.
will gets pix in the mornin, but it looks like even on a coon, the 110gr Barns TTSX rounds opened up. thing went down without so much as a twitch.
dam I love my gun! hopefully I get to put one of those TTSX's into a bear soon.
well, here it is. BIG too. I shot one last year. used a 5 gal bucket to haul it out to the woods, was so big that the back legs and butt hung out the top.
well, was suprized that there wasnt as much of an exit hole as i expected. saw the entrance whole last night but didnt roll it over.
entrance hole

Loving your post! Man we don't get bear down in Texas but I think that is going to be my first guided hunt. I go to all the same troubles you do but to shoot deer and pigs. I use donuts and old fruit for pig bait myself.
Thanx!
I almost went down to TX last year for a pig hunt. an outfit was offering a 2 for 1 deal. would have been $600 for two ppl for 4 days, 2 pigs over 300lbs +6 more non-trophy and included a bunch of varmint hunting too.
but I couldn't get anyone to go in on it with me. i want to get down south sometime for some longer range stuff. prong horn would be fun too.
but heres hopen i can bag a bear this year

no bear yet. a fridge went out at church so I got $1000 worth of gourmet Italian dinner to put out for it...
but all I have on the camera is some kind of ferret, a yellow lab, several coons and this
not sure if thats a good or bad thing...if he can smell it the bear should be able to pick it up right?
Let's see the other pictures. Reading the hunting threads makes me want to get one of these tree cams.
