A buddy and myself are trying to plan a hunt for next year. we have come up with a list of things we would want to hunt in order:
1. Elk
2. antelope
3. mule deer
4. Moose
would we be able to hunt any of the above for around 3k? also where would be the places to look out west?
You could definitely hunt antelope and mule deer for that price. The Elk and Moose hunts may be a little bit harder. Honestly though, in this economy it's definitely possible.
As for places to hunt I can't really help you there other than the fact that I have found a ton of places out west that offer these hunts.
Personally, I'm trying to find a hog hunt for next summer with my brother....I don't have the funds for a nice hunt like what you are looking at.
A buddy and I did a elk bow hunt in CO this year for $1200 a piece. We drove out, bivied in, camped for 7 days, ate Mountain House and Cliff Bars, and hunting GMU14 - Routt National Forrest. It was a great time. We saw 4 or 5 elk, 12 moose, 6 or 7 mulies, and an assortment of other game while out there. You can certaily go self guided cheap.

Are you thinking guided hunt or doing it yourself? you may be able to do an elk hunt in a drop camp for that price but I doubt you could get in to a lot of places (at least in Idaho) before 2011....Moose because of the price of an out of state tag (again, at least in Idaho) is outrageous I doubt would be under $5k...I couldn't tell you for certain on prices though. Deer (whitetail or mule deer) would probably be and easier and cheaper hunt to book. If you are curious about guide services in Idaho let me know, I've worked for or around a lot of them in central or northern Idaho and can find out about reputations for the ones in the southern part of the state.
If it were me right now with what I have killed I would probably end up in Wyoming or Utah hunting mule deer, but that's just because I have monster mule deer on the brain for next year. I also know a couple of guides from Wyoming and Colorado so I might be able to find out about outfitters in those states too.

Moose I think is pretty much draw only. Elk and deer go to Colorado or Wyoming
