Do I need to use a customs agent to clear trophies into the US?
I have some skins and skulls coming in from Zimbabwe pretty soon.
They are being shipped into DFW airport, and I live about half an hour away.
The shipping company in Zim apparently uses Coppersmith as customs agents in the US most of the time, but I was wondering if I could clear it myself?
My main concerns are:
What happens to my crate if I am not there to meet it when it arrives?
I travel regularly for work, so it might be several days after it arrives before I could get to the airport to deal with it. Would the airline and/or customs put it somewhere and wait for me, or ??
How hard is the process? It sounds like it should be filling out a couple of forms, talking to some customs guys, and paying a fee or two.
Is that really the case, or is it something where if you dont know what you are doing, you are going to be screwed and spend countless hours chasing your tail?
Please let me know if any of you have cleared shipments in yourself (or otherwise know that it is a terrible idea!)
