I am having the hardest time finding/seeing ducks and geese. Haven't shot a duck since OCTOBER. Is it just me or are the ducks not here yet? Getting worried cuz the 18th is the end of the season here.

I was very disappointed this season There were a few black ducks & wood ducks around in late September, and some blue bills in the first weeks of October. I didn't see a single duck after mid October. I'm not sure if it was the area I hunt, but it just never seemed to happen here.

It sure has been a strange year, starting with record high water in the Champlain Valley that knocked local duck production for a loop.....then the stupid hurricane in August that raised the lake 3 feet, flooding out what duck food had grown over the summer. Now we get the second warmest fall on record and it leads to the "perfect" storm of crappy duck hunting.

Some observations of my season so far: the only ducks I killed in October were on opening day, between going to Saskatchewan and beating the geese to a pulp there was no reason to chase after the hard to find duck.

Early November was pretty slow, the geese were still around and still dumb but we were starting to kill a few ducks in the mix. There was actually a pretty good number of whistlers down for that time of year and we had some fair shoots.

Thanksgiving week was HOT, cold temps pushed a bunch of new puddlers out of Canada and made for some great hunts, along with the whistlers that were here.

Since then it has slowed down quite a bit, except for last Sunday which was great (even though most people I spoke with said it sucked)

A couple of notes.........we have seen more migrating puddle ducks come down on strong south winds vs. when they should be moving Sunday was a prime example, 25mph south and 50* we decoyed 8 bunches of migrating mallards and blacks, like taking candy from a baby. Saturday clear, light north and 18* not one group moving

Tons of geese still here and the season is now closed

Word on the street is there are still a ton of birds in Quebec, no need to leave....no pressure, plenty of food and open water....why would they leave. It will get cold and they will come down.

One last thing, we have seen more hen mallards than drakes by a LONG shot, many bunches of all hens with 1 or 2 greenheads in it...very wierd

Sunday's hunt, banded greenhead was a local bird banded early fall.

At least I get to hunt till the end of january. If all the birds are still in Canada now, hopefully they wont be come january.

I went week before last and limited out on Canadas, but the only ducks we saw were few and far between and real high.

I'm going Saturday and I hope we have better luck.

The duck and goose numbers in northeast PA have been quite low as well; not that they are ever great. I did see quite a few hoodies and common mergansers while out Saturday morning, but Mallard/Black seem to be here in low numbers. We rarely see many divers in my territory any year.

I'm headed out to Easton in the morning. Got my fingers crossed for a black duck. I want one mounted before MD closes the season on them. Down to 1 now.

Thanks guys! Our season ended here on Sunday, I would post up some pics from the last two weeks of the season but I didn't take any. Because I didn't shoot anything. I hunted 12 days of the last 14 of the season and it totally sucked. Very few birds and nobody wanted to decoy...

Too warm. I went Saturday and between 5 guys we had 6 ducks. Some of that was poor shooting (not on my part)

There were times when we saw hundreds of ducks and geese real high, but they didn't want to come in. When we did get to shoot, it was pairs and triples.

Got a nice Bufflehead pair for my wall.

We are still holding on to them......you can have them all, after we are done with them on Thursday. Had another nice 9 bird shoot this morning that included a juvie drake gadwall and juvie drake pintail, we also saw a group of another 9 gadwalls and a hen green wing teal. Strange days indeed. BTW the band in the second picture was +/- 100 numbers off of the one I shot in my post above, a local band from this fall.
