Bagged my first 'yote today! Pix inside!
Congrats! Nice shooting for this early in the year. I went out last week calling and I had one appear about 15 yards in front of me. Don't know which one of us crapped first. Didn't have time to grab a shotgun, so I shouldered the obr lite and hit him in the side as he turned....Little f-er rolled down the hill about 10 feet then scrambled off into the brush. Found some blood but no yote.
Exellent! Is there a story to go along with that picture?
And I like the paint on your mag.
RIGHT ON
details?
ammo?
It's that a TR-24 ?
Nice. What scope and mount is that?
M
Pretty sure it's a LARUE SPR-E
I Love mine

Ok, sorry for the lack of details in the OP.
BCM middy upper/PSA "Don't Tread on Me" lower.
TR24 1-4X w/red triangle in a LaRue SPR-E mount.
55 grain soft tip Winchester Ranger.
I went out to this dude's house to buy a trailer at around 10:45AM yesterday. While we were out behind his barn hooking the trailer up to my truck, he looked past me and said "There's a coyote out in my field... They are always out there..."
I turned around, and sure enough, there he was taking a shit in the freshly cut field, about 100 yards out.
I asked the old guy if I could come back out later and try to bag him. He said "sure, any time..."
After work I went to the local range to zero my glass, having previously sighted it in with some 62gr Wolf crap.
I got back to the guys house at 6pm, pulled slowly up to the barn and there were TWO COYOTES sitting in the field about 150-175 yards out.
I put a clump of bushes between us, moved forward about 30 yards, went prone and took my first shot.
The 'yote yelped, and took off running and I took another shot, which seemed to also hit him.
Although I swore I hit him both times I could only find one entrance/exit wound, clean through the lungs. I'm not sure if the first round hit him and he died on the run, with my second shot missing, or if the first round spooked him and the second killed him...
If I had had my can with me, I think I could have nailed them both.

Are you using an electronic call or vocal?

Lol. I noticed that after I posted the pic.
Safety is a mindset, not a "switch."
The Four Rules, FTW.
Thanks for the great attitude, and congrats on an awesome hunt!
Congrats on the Yote! I am looking at getting into coyote hunting this winter. Glad I looked at your post. How does the scope work with the front sight base? I was under the impression the front sight would be in the way and I would need a gas block. No? I really like your setup and if that would work for me, great. I have a few posts on her about buying a new upper cause all my AR's have the FSB. The AR I want to put the new upper on currently had a abarrel with a 1x9 twist rate but hopefully I will be ok to start out with it. I would like to hear more about your scope setup and how it works for you. I am a newbie at most of this stuff. Thanks.

With the LT 1.5 mount (any eye relief config.) the the red triangle sits slightly above the sight post. The entire FSB is barely visible on 1X and is almost completely ghosted out on 4X.
The set-up pictured is not a "varmint" set-up at all. It's really my "fighting/go-to" rifle. I picked the Trijicon TR24 because the 1X is very close to zero magnification. The glass is unbelievably clear and the large exit pupil/eye relief is excellent. The tritium/fiber optic illumination means I'll never need to worry about batteries.
IMHO you don't need a folding front sight unless your scope is really low. In that case the FSB might be a bit distracting.
1:9 twist is fine for 55gr varmint loads, BTW. 1:8 or 1:7 isn't necessary unless you go up to 62-77gr loads.
If 1x isn't in your build criteria you might look at the other scopes in Trijicon's Accu-Point series like the 3-9x or 2.5-10x models.

Well, besides the fact that if you've let the hammer fall on an empty chamber you can't move the selector to safe.
Ohh can I add mine?!
RRA mid length hvy profile upper, approx 75-80 yards, open sights I'm proud to say. One 50gr HP in the neck, no exit wound. Instant death. This was last year.

Nice shooting Both OP and the other Pix.
I'm hoping to get out and find some next week.

Plz post some pix!
bump
Nice looking coyote, I just got my first one in December after trying for a whole year. Our population here isn't huge (yet, but it is growing) and they are mighty tricky animals to hunt, especially at night which is when I do all of my calling.
Good shooting!
