I think my coyote howler sounds like an elk...
I bought a Knight & Hale Ez-Howler plus. I have been praticing with it and I am getting the hang of barking and howling with it. However as the title says I think when I howl with it it sounds more like an elk. I searched on youtube for the same call and didn't find anything. The one video I did find with a coyote howl sounds different than mine. I am not sure if it just the sound quality or because it is a different brand of call.
Where is a good website to listen to the way calls should sounds like?
Thanks
MAHA
Record your sound and post it up so we can have a listen.
And if you IM me your email address, I'll send you some MP3s of howling and barks.
could the reed have slipped? if it has a tunable/removable reed it is possible it has slipped and changed the pitch of the call.
also the pressure you are blowing thru the call will effect the calls pitch, I know this when I practice on my mouth calls I have to remind myself about lip placement and pressure. I usually remember after my first blow it come out at a higher (i.e. female) pitch
I would like to put in my 2 cents.
I had just bought the original version of this call today, the K&H EZ Howler. i played with it and it did indeed sound somewhat like an elk, i took it apart and played with the reeds for a couple hours trying to get the right pitch and sound out of but no luck, finally i read in a different forum that if you take the red/yellow chamber off and use it as an open reed call you have better control over it but it takes a bit more practice to get sound. I recommend you try that. also if anyone knows how to adjust the reeeds so that you can leave the red/yellow chamber on and it doesnt sound like a piece of crap please let me know what the secret is.
I hope this was helpful to you.

thanks for the info and welcome to the site!
Rizzo sent me some MP3s of a coyote call. I was closer then I thought I know there needs to be some more pratice on my part. I pratice in my jeep on the way to work. I know I got weird looks with my rabbit distress call. I will probably get out and try it in the next couple of weeks to see if I can call anything in. Maybe tomorrow night. I have some reloads to test in the morning that are for yotes if I find a good load I will load some more and head out Friday night.

Good luck!
This time of the year is good for pup distress and fawn distress.
Practice making puppy whines and yips.
Find a good fawn bleat sound and imitate that.
Post pics!
ETA here's a good fawn bleat. Don't be surprised if an angry doe or 5 show up.

I have been using a Quaker boy little rascal call to immitate a rabbit in distress in combination with the EZ howler with the chamber off. i havent got any responses yet but it could have been just a bad night. let me know if anyone has any luck with the ez howler, and if i could hear those mp3s he sent you that would be great, thanks
