Looking for opinions on what power scope I should get for my current Coyote/Ground Hog build. Most shots will be taken with 300yrds. Do I need to go above 9x or 12x?

If you plan on more groundhogs than yotes maybe 12x. I would'nt want an A.O. on a yote calling rifle myself. I have differant rifles for groundhogs and yotes. I don't think I've ever shot a coyote over 200 yards, many come quite quick to a call. I'd say 60 yard average for me.

when coyote callin I always keep the scope on the lowest power for a good field of view 1.5-4.5 and 2-7 on callin rifles works the best for me. I run a Millet 1.5-6 with a small lighted reticle on an AR L.W. carbine most of the time.

You could try a 2.5x10 to split the difference.... So long as the scope has an "L" on the side of it you should be OK......

I've found that I actually have two rifles for the different applications. For dogs, I use a 3x9 on a 16" carbine, as most of the shots I take are off-hand or on some improvised stand. I usually leave the power setting on the lower settings. For the longer shots, I get more satisfaction with a bipod on a 24" SS free floated varmint barrel on a full stocked AR with a 2-stage trigger, had great results using a 6x18 Nikon target dot. Have hit prairie dogs out to 400 plus.

If I had to go with one rife, then I would personally pick a good 3x9 scope and put a decent trigger upgrade in the lower for best results. Good luck and happy hunting..

I have a 4.5-14 Buckmaster on a varmint upper and ACOG 1x24 on a 16" upper. When I was in TX for school I used the 16" most of the time as it was lighter and easier to manipulate, the varmint upper is just too heavy to carry afield.

Nowadays I find myself reaching for me Savage .22 with a Nikon Monarch 1.5-4x24 for g-hogs. I can make reliable hits out to 200 yards on hogs with it as the glass is uber clear. And the whole rig with can on weighs 5.75 pounds so I can carry it anywhere.

I run a 1-4 BURRIS XTR for Coyotes

You don't want the Hubble telescope when they are running

I'd rather have an aimpoint or Eotech than a dammed 12x

I'd say 90% of hunters out there have specific rifles set up for both.

aimpoint and eotech are'nt going to cut it at 300+ yards on an ohio chuck! 4-16 is as low as I go busting chuck's here. If they only give me a head shot when there in there hole I take it
