Deer round question
Hey I am looking for a round for my son to shoot this weekend. It needs to be something I can pick up at Bass Pro/Academy/Walmart. I looked through the deer hunting rounds thread but due to my ignorance about ammo I could not make heads or tales of it. Thanks in advance.
What caliber?
Generally people report good performance from the Remington Core-Lokt ammunition, and it's widely available.
Sorry 223. I have deer hunted all my life just not with a 223.
Your best bet is going to be something loaded with a Barnes TSX bullet. My Academy carries Barnes VorTex ammo with 50gr TSX. Bass Pro might have one of the other Mfgs, with a different weight.
However, you'll probably be alright with any quality BONDED bullet and good shot placement. My son killed two deer this year with the 64gr Speer Gold Dots. Both were broadside through and throughs, excellent performance.
Thanks again
You can find Remington 223 55gr PSP in any Walmart. Remington part number R223R1.
It's 55gr bullet of pointed soft point design. It is not a varmint bullet.
I picked up two boxes for my 12 y/o nephew to use on the next hog hunt in my AR-15.
I actually picked up a box of those today. Looking forward to getting him a chance this weekend. Thanks again for everyones repies.
