10pointer, 2am. Tips/thoughts to keep him around until daybreak? ---- UPDATE back at 6am!

Finally got a photo of a buck, and whatta guy! Seeing that there are only 7 days left in the season I doubt I'll be able to drag him out in the daylight this year, but I'm sure gonna give it a try tomorrow and Monday.

I'm guessing it is too late for estrus scents but maybe a little bit will keep him in the area and some rattling will bring him in? His travel in the photos is right to left, which is consistent with the direction on the massive amounts of rubs I found in that immediate area. A few trees actually snapped in half at his rub. This half of the property is a wooded 12 acres or so (plus 15 acres of field across the street), and I have not found any regularly used bedding areas on either property.

Should I hang some estrus wicks out there this evening, and go out in the morning ready to call and rattle?

Buck bombs work for me.Spray his rubs and scrapes and see how pissed he gets!A grunt or two should be enough to get him in after spraying the night before.Thats a buck of a lifetime to me!Good luck

Thanks, I'll give that a shot! I made a fake scrape on the ground and put some Primos Dominant Buck out there the day before that pic was taken.

I've never seen more than a button buck (only been hunting for 4 years) so this guy would be the buck of a lifetime for me, too

ETA: Looking at sapling behind him, right where it meets his backside, there is a splash of white - that's one of his rubs.

This morning at 4am I hit the "dismiss" button on my alarm instead of the snooze button, and wound up getting to the stand 45 minutes later than I wanted. When I got about 20 yards from the stand I heard a deer take off and crossed my fingers that it wasn't him. After 5hours of seeing nothing and me tossing out a few grunts for good measure, I pulled the memory card out of the camera and headed home to do Christmas stuff.

Yep, you guessed it, it was him.

SONOFA!

Well, he's got a free pass for tomorrow but come Monday morning it will be game on because I will be in that stand by 5:00am and I will be there every morning this coming week until either I get him or hunting season ends

Hunting hours started at 6:45 today, and this is him alerting on me walking up to the stand. (The camera is about 15 yards to the left of the stand, with some brush undergrowth between)

Another photo for good measure

looks like an older buck... last year had one come across my box stand about 40yrds, right at end of leagul shooting,or just after... next day about 100 yrds out deer stemped out.. grabbed my camera, figured it a doe, soomed in realized it a buck, grabbed rifle, too late... whin down loaded video... believe it was the same buck as night earlier... could tell from body it was older buck... on Wildgame cam got a pic of a younger buck just starting ta get it's rack.. several does... later seen what think is same deer that got on Wildgame cam... guessen about 11 inch spread, real tall rack full velvite, thinken just before it rubbed the velvit off, close too that time period...

That is a big boy. Where in CT are you? It seems all the big guys where I hunt in Redding have all succumbed to lead or carbon poisoning.

I have been working a group of does that have gone nocturnal on me. I caught them on the cam today at 6am but of course I was not there either. At least I have January hunting in Fairfield county.

That's a 11 point buck not a 10 point. His right beam has a short G3, you can see it in your last 2 pics.

Yes, first series of pictures only showed 10pts, the second set showed #11. Too bad I bumped him on my way to the stand - didn't even catch pic of him yesterday when I was out.

PGAEMU - I'm hunting zone 5 on private land. I can also bowhunt private land down in East Lyme but I haven't headed out that way this year.

Yep! Checked the camera this morning on my way to work and he was back just after 1am. I guess I haven't completely scared him off. I'm going to put out some more buck bombs tonight on my way home from work and try again 4am. The last picture on the camera shows that there is a spike in the area, too.

Nope, sorry. Building a blind for next year, 30-35 feet up so that I can camp out in it.

No late season? Here in PA our muzzleloader season is open now until the end of the month. That big boy appears to travel only at night. That's why he has lasted as long as he has. You need to find out where he beds for the day. Get out there after the seasons are over and there is snow on the ground and find out where he beds. Set up the camera in that area to pin it down. Good Luck.

We have an archery only season for the first 2 weeks in January, but it is only for towns along the CT shoreline. I have property down there that I can hunt on, but it is a small parcel less than 1 acre. I may head down there for a doe, but the big-boy will be a good 60miles away

Yep. It appears that he spends his daylight hours somewhere other than the property you hunt. One word of advice –– forget those damned buck bombs. Estrous scents are a waste of good money. I've killed a lot of good bucks over the years, and not one of them was killed by the use of scents. Good luck in your quest to get him next year.

Oh that's the easy part. He beds across the Southwest border on the 1,200 acre reservation that doesn't allow hunting

ETA pic (North is 90* to the right)

Then he may very well be unkillable. Your only chance may be during the rut next year.

This. Probably the only way you'll get him is if he's crazy in love with a doe and she brings him to you.

I'll start with planting some food plots in the field to help encourage doe traffic, it sure can't hurt!
