Topoquest

There's an app for Iphone that ties into this website for downloads. You can view these on your phone with the app.

go to the usgs site, find your area, and get the download. its a little strange because it looks like you have to buy the map, but when you click to buy , the price is 0.

is there any way to get a 1:50k or 1:25k MGRS topo anywhere? i am consistently pissed at the shittiness of maps available. sure, i can GPS my way along, but with the no-scale, spitballed maps most DNRs provide, it's pointless.

Nice google earth plugin, it will let you click on sections of the US in GE and download a topo map that overlays very well.

http://www.gelib.com/usgs-topographic-maps-2.htm

Read the instructions, you have to do something with "legacy mode" or whatnot to get it to work, but it once that is done - everything works perfect.

yea it's just nice to do a little map recon before i punch out. work and such get time consuming so it'd be nice to have some priorities set out in advance before i get there. i try to do it with sat photos from google maps but without grids i ghetto terrain-associate and it usually ends up to be mostly stumbling through the treeline scaring everything off.

go here
http://store.usgs.gov/b2c_usgs/usgs/maplocator/(xcm=r3standardpitrex_prd&layout=6_1_61_75&uiarea=2&ctype=areaDetails&carea=%24ROOT)/.do
find the location you want a map of.
Click on "MARK POINTS:"
left click on the area you want a map of
the wait a sec for the red marker to appear
then left click the marker
a window comes up
you can download the map for free or pay and they will ship it to you.
