Ok, I'm sorry. Another "First Deer" Thread!
Can't help myself, even though it's not huge I was psyched to get it.
3rd season trying! Just a little forked horn, but I'm not picky. Was a great time and can't wait for next season.
30-06 Barnes 180 gr TTSX from about 40 yards. In one side, pulled one lung and most of the stomach out the other side.
Just got the fresh meat back today, waiting on the smoked goodies now.
congratulations on the first buck you ever earned.
Congrats man. Wow you guys are into gun season already.
Bow season in Michigan
My brother shot this Tuesday in east Shiawassee County

Congratulations! There's nothing like your first for lifetime memories. You did good!

Big +1. You have to start somewhere.
Congrats!
You can't wait for next season? Do you guys in OR only get 1?

Was wondering the same thing...
12 here. 10 antlerless. 2 bucks, one buck must have at least 4 points on one side.

Yep.
Nice dark brown stock on the 30-06. Love the classic look of that one.
I have stainless and camo on just about everything... I kinda forget how rich the wood can look.

we have to have the first buck be atleast 4 point on one side? if that a requirement? I haven't seen that anywhere before.
Not the FIRST, just one of the two.
No more than 10 may be anterless and no more than 2 may be antlered. One (1) of the 2 antlered deer must have at least 4 points, one inch or longer, on one side of the antlers
12 per season, statewide
See
here.
Congrats!
Still remember my first, 30 years ago.
Can't remember yesterday though....
Thanks all!
We only get one per year pretty much, unless we get a special doe tag. Some of you can get 12??? WOW
So I'm definitely yearning for next season already dangit. Going to do alot of waterfowl hunting and will do bear season this fall too. Also firsts.
Thanks on the rifle! It's a Savage 110 pre accutrigger. I have a Cabela's Pine Ridge 6-18x on it that is beautiful.
FYI, just now cooked up some backstrap for lunch, little salt pepper and garlic. Fantastic.
I have 10 myself......2 buck and 8 doe tags....no limit to how many doe tags you can buy either, until they run out....some counties here have upto 3500 extra doe tags available for purchase
I never get tired of "first deer" threads. The more hunters the better, I say!
Congrats!

That is certainly the way I look at it. Especially since I was the only one in the group that got one.
As we talked with lodges and game wardens throughout the week it seemed like a lot of people were getting nothing.
Lots of does, no bucks to be seen. At least very very few.
Meat to share and a rack to mount! I even kept the shell from the bullet I used.
Thoughts on mounting the shell on the plaque with the cleaned skull/rack? Or is that overkill?

One of the best that I have seen.
Was a Plaque that had the antlers mounted,
PIC under the antlers.
Brass Plate with Hunt Info. under the pic.
and then shell case under the brass plate.
All on the same Plaque.
No matter what, It will always remind you of the hunt.
I never mounted my first Bow Kill. But I do have them tacked to the hunting cabin wall.
They are not my biggest Buck, BUT... they are actually the ones I treasure the most.
I killed that Buck with a Bow at 7 yards my first year Bow Hunting.
12 is pretty generous. Here, we get one tag per year, if we are fortunate enough to draw one in the lottery. And there is no such thing as an antlerless deer tag.

You should look into hunting a neighboring state, like WA or something.
It's early in the season and lots of time left.
