I figured this would be a good place to ask this. I need a camera to monitor HUMAN activity in my back yard. I have had some things moved in the past, but this past weekend I forgot to lock my outbuilding some things went missing. They took some cedar arrows, an axe, and a Ka-Bar machete. I tend to think it was teenagers as none of my expensive tools were taken. Last night I pulled some very fine fishing line across an area that I think they are coming from and this morning it was snapped. I need an IR camera that I can get some decent pics of these clowns for the cops to ID but cheap enough that it doesn't break my budget. I really don't want to spend more than $100, but I do have a -$20 coupon at the local Dick's Sporting Goods. Thanks for your help. If I catch these guys I'll post the pics, with the faces fogged, of course!
Regular IR cameras still have a plainly visible flash. It's not a bright white light, more of a brief red glow. But if you put the cam outside where they have acess to it, they could easily see the flash and make off witht the camera. If you can put the cam inside the house in a window it might work.
What you realy need is a completely invisible black flash camera. Be prepared to spend north of $300. The UWAY NT50B is a good and (relatively) cheap model.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know they still had visible flash/glow. That wouldn't be too much of a problem if I can bolt it to the house somehow. Do they have a secure cable lock or something? If it is bolted to the house, they would have to make a lot of noise to remove it from the house, by then I'd hear them (I HOPE

) They are walking past a porch light, how noticeable would the glow be with decent illum from a 60 watt bulb?
I'll research the UWAY NT50 B, thanks.
Uh, the UWAY NT50 B is a bit spendy for me
They are walking under a 100 year old pecan tree with some big, low limbs. If I got a ladder and mounted it 12-15 feet off the ground, angled slightly down, would it still take decent pics? It would certainly be out of reach then.
I would recommend buying a dummy surveilance camera and mounting it to the shed, or even better yet a couple of them. Basically they look like a camera and have a flashing red LED light on them so whoever is coming in would see the flashing light and possibly make a U-turn.
