 Heil Proset Elite iC question

I have a couple of HF radios that I like to use, one is an ICOM IC-718 and the other is a Yaesu FT-857D. I'd like to buy a headset and was looking at the Heil Proset Elite iC headset. Does anyone know if I buy the iC version if I can buy the right adapter will it work with my Yaesu? I'd rather not buy 2 $150+ headsets, I'd much rather buy the iC and then use the adapter for the Yaesu. I don't think it will work if I do it the other way around, but I can't seem to find anything online that says for sure whether it will work or not.

Anyone ever try this? The guys at HRO seem to think it will work, but I'd rather have someone with some real world experience with it tell me yay or nay.

Email your question to Heil customer service. There is a good chance that Bob Heil himself will answer the email. THey won't steer you wrong.

Or just call and he will probably answer your question over the phone with no waiting.

I bought an ICM mic for my 718 and immediately had a hum on transmit. Called them and Bob got on the line to explain what was wrong and what I needed to do for the fix. Works like a champ now and they are great to deal with.

The ICM mike on a 718 needs the mic shield grounded which involves adding a small wire and fastening it to the screw on the mic plug clamp. If the headset needs this fix to eliminate the RFI hum the instructions are here: http://heilsound.com/amateur/tips/rfi_removal_mics.php

OK, I called and glad I did. Turns out the info from the guys at HRO was wrong. The lady I spoke with at Heil seemed to think with the 718 I might be able to buy the regular proset elite 6 and just turn up the mic gain to make it work. If worse comes to worse, I guess I could just buy the FT-950 I've been dreaming about and keep my 718 as a backup. It's served me well so far, so hopefully I don't have to go that route, but you never know.

Yeah I believe the IC element works fine with BOTH the older (low gain) and newer (higher gain) ICOMs but I don't know about the Yaesu. Heil can tell you.

I would like a IC-718 for a backup......and I have owned a FT-950. You would be very happy with the Yaesu and the Icom would end up collecting a bit of dust.

All you need to do is turn up the mic gain. We use the same headset at the EOC with a 718.
