Does anyone have any that they suggest for good value and durability???

I'm just looking for one that will be compact and easy to carry for my camping trips

Don't know what you want to fish for or how fancy you want to get but they used to sell these telescopic crappie rods that are about 3 ft. long collapsed and 9 or 10 ft. long extended. No rod and reel, kind of work like the old cane poles.

I'm no fisherman, but I know better than to ever recommend, or suggest a telescoping rod.
I do recall that a Field and Stream editor made an excellent suggestion when asked to suggest a telescoping rod, he informed the person that asked the question that they'd be happy to refund the cost of his subscription.

A lightweight two piece rod fits about anywhere, and it's far superior.
To that end, I picked up an Ugly Stik spinning combo at Bass Pro, it was less than 30bux. It's plenty good enough for pan fish, and small mouth bass.

Yeah Thanks.

I know telescopic is normally not the way to go....but I'm REALLY trying to pack something super compact.

and Panfish is all I need, I'm not looking for anything seriously super.

i have recently bought Cabela's Fish Eagle II Spinning Pack Rod 6'6" medium and i cannot complain for a medium priced rod it is very nice...that rod with a shimano sahara that i picked up from dicks for a 1/3 off being last years model has brought me some nice smallies and eyes from the kankakee river...i leave this in my car with a small plano box with a couple of my favorite cranks, few spinners, some jigs and misc and i can hit any river and most small lakes around and come out with fish...

I would also recommend a four piece pack or travel rod. Cabelas sells them, as does Bass Pro Shops. A six foot rod should break down to 18 inch pieces, which is about the size of a telescoping rod.

Just get a 2-piece 5'6" Ultralight if you're looking or a panfish rod, breaks down to around 2'8" and is crazy light

I'd almost just pack a reel some tip ties and some eyes and try to scrounge up a decent branch out in the field then use a telescoping.

Make a cane pole.
Take fishing line, hooks, sinkers, bobbers.
Then cut a branch when you want to fish.
It'll all fit into a small plastic box, and you won't even know it's there.

Look around, or maybe make your own. Some of the ones I've seen, look like they could possibly make good walking sticks while still being a functional pole. I was thinking about buying one, they can be fairly useful in the right situations. I saw one that was a Cabela's brand, and looked decent enough.
