Has anyone read the recent book by Ahern: Survive! The Disaster, Crisis, and Emergency Handbook? It looked okay, and I have listened to a couple of his Survivalist books on CD. I'll probably get it anyway, but I am curious what the impression is.

haven't. it's on my list of wants, though, so consider this me looking over your shoulder for what those who've read it think.

Thanks, I didn't know that Mr Ahern had any new books out. I read all of his SURVIVALIST series back when they came out, plus some of his other books. These are novels, don't expect to get much useful info out of them. If you have read any of W.W. Johnstone's ASHES books, you would probably like the SURVIVALIST books.

Well, I finished the book...five months after I received it.

I thought the first 2/3 of the book was pretty good, a bit obvious for most who hang out here, but for folks who are unprepared or folks new to the lifestyle, it's not a bad starting point.

The last 1/3 of the book seemed to be written in a manner that would lead a reader to think Ahern was looking to add pages and meet a deadline at the same time.

I will say that the editor missed many grammatical and spelling errors to the point that I noticed it. I found that to be a bit odd.

Overall, I enjoyed the book because I like these topics, but it was a bit elementary. I think this would be an outstanding book for the two groups of people I mentioned above.

If anyone else has read it by now, what did you think?

I have not read this new book, and would probably have a difficult time convincing myself to do so. I bought the entire Survivalist series off of an individual from ebay. By the end of the 5th or 6th book, they were very predictable. After the book where they woke up after 2 - 300 years of sleep, I was done. A sci-fi fan I am not.

I'm a sci-fi fan, but I couldn't really get into the series. I read the first couple of books, but quickly lost interest in the rest of them.
