Before I start this, let me first say that I am very thankful to all of you who have read, critiqued, help, talked about, and pimped LO over the years. Without you all, the book would not be the success it has become. Thanks a million.

I have been thinking about this post for a couple of days. I really don't want to have to post this, because I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do it without sounding like a dick. No matter how I word it, someone is going to take it wrong. This is the best I can come up with and I hope it doesn't offend anyone. If it does, I am truly sorry.

There are thousands and thousands of hours of work in LO. It has been on the net for free since I began writing it in 2002. I now have a chance to make a few bucks off of it. I pulled it off the net because I no longer want to give it away. No one is authorized to post, email, or share the story with out my permission. That is what "copyrighted" means. Now, I am not so naive as to think this won't happen some. However, doing so is stealing from me. If you are fine with that, there is probably little I can do about it. All I can ask is that you respect my wishes. I hope, by early this summer, to have copies for sale that have many of the problems with the story fixed and even a few new chapters. Thanks.

I've read the PDF, and will buy several copies of the print version when it is available. Thank you very much, and I wish you very good luck. Lights Out rocks, and you deserve every penny you're gonna make it on it. Put me on the pre-order list for an autographed copy!

Good move.

ETA: dammit, you better pull Lost and Found too. People are going to be screaming for your next book as soon as Lights Out hits the shelves.

Where can I get the print version?

I have the pdf and I started it but never read it because I hate reading on a computer.

Tell me where to buy it. I want to read it and I believe in capitalism. people should get paid for their work.

OK. I want an autographed copy too.

David, I wish you all the best with the commercial sale of your book. I hope that it is a huge success makes the NY Times best seller list and ends up being made into a movie someday. How about offering signed first edition copies to those of us who had a hand in assisting you by critiquing the story while it was a work in process both here and on the Frugal site? I would dearly love to have such a copy for my library.

Halffast,
I enjoyed LO quite a bit. It lead me to think of things in a new "light". Thank you.

I wish you success.

Please consider making ebook versions available for Kindle readers. I also think it would be cool if there were Arfcom/FS special editions.

You, my friend, can pull it off, too. It just won't be as much fun wondering where your CCW is as it would be with an evening dress.

LOL... silly - that's easy... formal gown = one option: thigh holster. (got pics in my wedding dress that caused quite a stir... LOL...) and pants with a loose blouse = belly band, while pants with tighter top = IWB holster. although tactical britches with stilettos may = ankle holster... hmmm...

David,

I dont think you sound like a dick. LO is your work and it is an excellent read. I can rarely say "I just cannot stop reading!". Are you going to just do e-copies, or physical book? I still have the pdf and will not share it out now that you have spoken, but would still be interested in a updated e-copy and really interested in a physical book.

Thanks for writing LO and keep up the excellent writing.

ETA: An autographed copy would be awesome!!

It is too bad that LO didn't hit the shelf sooner. The "raw" on-line version is a better read than William Forstchen's "One Second After," in my humble opinion. I look forward to the new and improved version.

Good luck!

In a way, though, the timing couldn't be better. The public is probably more tuned in right now to SHTF/societal collapse (thanks Obama! ) than it has been in any time in the past - except for maybe the home bomb shelter days when people realized that nuclear weapons were pretty damn scary. OSA, Patriots, Rawles' "How to Survive the End...." are all just whetting people's appetites and priming them for the release of Lights Out... the best of them all. Mark my words, the public is going to eat this up and David's going to make some righteous coin. Well deserved. In my first post way above, I said "better pull Lost and Found too...". I wasn't really joking. Ride the wave, dude.

David,

I am truly sorry for starting this thread.

The reason I did was purely selfish on my part, and for that I apoligize.

I had lost the original PDF on my hard drive and wanted to make a back-up copy for myself.

Let me say that I have the utmost respect for the time you put in the story, and I should have PMed YOU for a copy and explained why I needed it.

Please accept my sincere apoligy, and I hope that there are no hard feelings, I will be one of the first to buy the finalized copy when it goes into print!

Just let me know where to send the check, and I would definately love to own an autographed copy.

Hope you can forgive a fellow FAL/JEEP junky such as yourself!

Kind Regards,

Wade

Um, am I being really dense and missing something? Why the apology, and why lock the thread? I've seen only well-wishers among the posters. If it's because of the small deluge of "I'd like an autographed copy"s, then perhaps I (in being the first responder to Halffast's reply) am to blame, but I was really only kidding. You don't know me or owe me squat, and I certainly didn't really expect one to turn up in the mail. If any offense was taken, none was meant. I'd honestly appreciate it if someone would point out for me exactly where the thread has apparently gone awry, because I just don't 'get it'...?

I have just discovered this forum and I love reading all of the stories here. I never read "Lights Out" but after reading all of this I am really curious about it. I will gladly buy a copy whenever it is available because: 1) from what I have read here it sounds like it must have been a great story, and 2) Any chance to support a fellow ARFcommer in creative endeavors is worth a few bucks to me.

Congratulations on getting published and good luck with future works.

PS-as mentioned above, an ARFcom special edition would be the cat's a$$...

Man, oh man Halfast! You have just GOT to keep us updated on the progress of the publication of "Lights Out". I can't wait to buy a copy or three.

Wow this is FANTASTIC news. So is Light's Out really being "published" or is it more like a self-publishing ebook type thing? Only reason I ask is because I remember you citing all the difficulties with getting it published due to its size etc.

I've been following this story since it was first posted over at frugal squirrels and THR 7 or 8 years ago. Back then I read it chapter by chapter as it was posted. So I learned to have some serious patience. I'm so glad all these years later Halffast will finally benefit financially from his masterpiece.

Of course, put my name on the pre-order list for a signed copied. Maybe 3.
