Elk rifle weigh in w/Pixs
DPMS LR-308 with 5 rd mag, IOR 4x on ARMS rings-16" Sportical
Ruger M77 .300 Win. Zeiss 3x9 conquest, 6 rds in butt carrier
Marlin guide gun, Leopold 2x and 5 rds of ammo
Keepin it in perspective -Bushy 16" M4 profile piston gun, Eotech and 30 rds of 55 gr in a Pmag
I live for elk season, usually take a 300 and the 308. This winter I am going to try and get the 308 down to 8.5 lbs loaded with a new upper-18" light profile bbl and Dpms A3 lightweight receiver. If that shoots well I will be a happy hunter.
ETA-Too freaking hot (101) to do anything but weigh guns and inventory ammo

What particular model is the DPMS ? I am going to be using my 16" AP4 .308 this year and would like to have an Idea how much it might weigh.
Well now I have to go put my newest toys on the scale.
Weatherby Ultra light 30-06 nikon 3-9x40 in leupold mounts 7lbs 2oz
Remington 7400 synthetic carbine in 30-06 no scope 7lbs 14oz
weighed empty

Thats a sportical model, the raised pic rail gun. Wish I had kept my AP4. The funky rail height keeps me from swapping optics easily. Still shoots great though and a near perfect elk gun for me.

I find this thread very interesting. I have a Remington 700 Titanium that the bolt handle just broke off and I am rather disappointed as I only have less that 300 rounds through it and it has never been abused.
On the other hand I have an AR15 that has about 3000 rounds through it and it has been abused, yet no breakage.....
I like the idea of swapping out for a lighter weigh variant of a 308 AR even though I have the Remington at the gunsmith's for repair.

I really like that set up! What kind of groups did you get out of it? I was thinking about taking my 16in fulton this year as a back up in CO, but that sucker is way to heavy with a midweight barrel and 13in handguards. I usually hunt with a single shot pro hunter in .300 wm, but hell most areas i'm hunting in the lower San Juan I can only shoot 75-100 yards.
If I put up the right target I get 1" groups at 100 yds with the cheap federal 165 gr loads.
With the sling set up patrol style-left side front rail and left side stock the weight is pretty well evenly distributed and the rifle comes up quick.
Funny stuff! My coworkers were giving me a hard time last week for weighing guns.
Stevens Model 200, 30/06, Leupold VXII 3-9X40, military style leather sling = 7lbs 13oz.
Its got some snort but it shoots MOA off the bench if I do my part.
I just weighed my 700SPS in .300wsm with scope and sling, but no ammo: 8lbs 7oz.
For next year I'm considering also bringing my M1A Scout, but that thing is over the 11lb max for my scale - probably about 11.5lb.
