"The Department of Labor is poised to put the finishing touches on a rule that
would apply child-labor laws to children working on family farms, prohibiting
them from performing a list of jobs on their own families' land."

C'on folks, you and I both know this makes no logical sense.

and they are not just talking about your 6 y/o running a tractor! Depending on
it's "interpretation" it could prevent your 10 y/o from using a 9v Cordless
Drill!

After reading this story and looking around a little online, I found No One from
South Carolina standing against this proposal. So I sat down and typed a short
note to my US Senators and Representatives.

They are easy to find, just Google their name find their site then click the
contact button. It only takes a few min, but could make a big difference?

I was hesitant to post this in fear of 'politicizing' the board (that is not my
intent), but we do have to hang together when it comes the issues that could not
only affect our families but our farms as well.

edit:corrected link-thanks

Carl Drega...

I recall a scene in the movie American outlaws where some folks stood on a rural porch and tried to tell the farm owner what she was going to do... while her sons stood around with rifles.
She folded her hands and said "let me go to the lord... uh huh.. uh huh.. hmm.." "he says we can bury them out back in the orchard, nobody will ever find them."

At the rate they are going... they are eventually going to push somebody too far.

Your link wasn't working for me: here it is again

I love how that if passed, it will "revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course."

I wonder what that 90-hour government training course entails? This country is going down the tube, and it scares the crap out of me almost daily.

LOL, or maybe, COL, picked up the kids Sunday evening from a 2 1/2 day 4H course that included WELDING, TRACTOR OPERATION, BASIC ELECTRICAL, etc, etc.
Kids as young as 11 were WELCOME! God forbid they learn any needed skills in a safe, supervised fashion!

Freakin' nanny state, ^%$^%^%&&%!!!!!

I read that this morning and my mouth was hanging open. I remember Glenn Beck talking about it last year and I never heard much more about it so I figured it was dead. I guess not! There is no end to the stupidity of our federal government. I'm just speechless on this one.

Here is a list of those looking to prevent the rule change.

Find your Congressional Representatives here

If folks from your state aren't listed-unplug Arfcom, to take a few min and write a simple note to ask them to join the fight against the proposal. If No One from your state speaks they may believe no one cares....

too lazy to type? copy/paste this:

Representative/Senator __________,

Thank You for your service in Washington.

I'd like to bring to your attention a recent news story in regards to "family farming".

The Dept of Labor has proposed new rules that if set into action would prevent me from sharing simple life experiences with my children.

I believe the Federal Government has no place on my farm, or in the upbringing of my family.

I'd like to ask that you, on behalf of my family and many other small farm families, join with those opposing the proposed law changes.

I'd like to see your name listed with the other Senators and Representatives who are working to protect our families farming interest from the over-reaching hand of Federal regulators.

for more information you can go here:

the Daily Caller has posted this story in regards to the proposal:

Sincerely,

Jon Q Citizen

I don't see how the Dep of Labor has any jurisdiction over what chores kids do at home on the farm while not being paid.

If the kid lives there and is not getting paid, the Department of Labor has no say in the matter at all.

Who the fuck do these assholes think they are?

Fuck these people.

What's the alternative, have them sit around and play more Xbox? Hard work is good for them. Get that some equipment is too dangerous for very young kids, but plenty of work that's reasonable.

Farm=business

Kids working on farms=labor that they would otherwise need to pay for.

Being compelled to labor without getting paid=slavery.

Therefore,

Farm chores=slavery.

Yes, people in government DO think that way.

Done.

Not that Franken or Walz will do anything that isn't lockstep in line with the current administration, it can't hurt.

This is why we have to keep up the pressure and let Washington know we are watching them.
