Ok, so I have lived in Washington most of my life and to this day still can't recall seeing any rats the size of cats running around. Until last night. I went to go put the horse blankets away in the barn and there were 2 rats the size of cats. I thought they were opossums at first. any body ever encounter this obsenely large varity and what did you do to get rid of them?

Sounds like a good opportunity to do some hunting....do it now before they take over!

We call those nutria here in Louisiana. We usually just shoot em' but if your hungry, they make a damn good stew.

Bait station cures what ails em...would seem suitable for barn. Have also used Victor traps with success

I saw one stealing snacks out of my chicken run a few weeks ago. A d-con bait trap was nibbled on for a few days and haven't seen it since.

Good excuse for buying a modest Night Vision optic! I shoot a supressed 10/22 with a cheap Gen 1 Night Vision optic at a friend's farm in the winter sometimes and we can shoot several dozen rats a night. You just need to feed them a while so they learn were to go to get the food and then you go on your rat safari! Shooting mice you can get hundreds a night on a good night!

Contrac Blox + Bait staition = dead rodents. I leave my bait stations out year round to keep the population down (I live next to a landscapers yard with a big compost pile)

When I was a Teenager we would get a 12 pack hand lanterns (With red over the lens) and .22 bird shot loads sit in lawn chairs and wait for them to scurry out . I am not sure how effective we were at controlling to population . We had a blast and a lot of Rats fell

Probably a pack rat. Did it look cute? And smell nasty?
I used to crush common small rats with my gloved hand - well at least once anyway.
Dogs are the way to go. Had a friends Chesapeake do the deed, they will kill them dead.
