Rosemary, hard to grow ??
Hi, Just started cooking as now I'm the person keeping the home for the family ( Wife , 2 dogs and grandkids { 2 } every other weekend ) and have discovered rosemary as a great herb for My menu. Have been growing chives for a few years so I figured give rosemary a shot as it's $3 for a small container at the super market ? Bought a Bonnie Nursery rosemary plant at Wal-mart and planted it in a 3gal pot with topsoil/potting soil mix , mulched top and sits in open sun outside. Will clip a couple branches in a couple weeks to clone and start more plants. Any tips , thoughts , ideas, thanks Wvleo
Very easy to grow in just about every kind of soil. Likes hot weather and is not a water hog. Plant in a place with plenty of room cause they will grow big and fast. Prepare to prune...........
It grows like a weed. Just don't let it freeze if you want a year around crop.
As mentioned, very easy to grow. One of my rosemary plants lives year round in a 3 gal container. Sits out on the deck in the summer and I bring it inside for the winter. If your leaving it in the 3 gal pot, be sure to give it plenty of water. Well drained soil, soak the roots when watering, mine grows fine inside with 100% indirect sunlight.
I've got a rosemary plant that went into the ground 6 years ago - still going strong. You'll need to keep it under control as it spreads fast.
Sound like a have a good start on some fresh cooking heb. Thanks.....leo
Snip a sprig of that rosemary, rinse it, snip the leaves & sprinkle on a loaf of bread with some olive oil & sea salt. Warm in the oven. Mmm...
The cold doesn't bother them at least in North Carolina.
It's stupid simple, but I am not sure how well it will tolerate your WV winter...
Up here in the Eastern Panhandle of Wv I will be bringing the potted mother plant inside during the winter months......leo

They are vulnerable to freezing, at least while in pots, The neighbor and I both lost plants in a cold snap last year.
Save your prunings (stems) and drop them on the coals while grilling steaks or chicken.
They use it as landscaping in Albuquerque and it will dip to the teens regularly in the winter. I don't remember seeing any in Santa Fe where it will go to 0 a few times
