Canning Jars from Walmart
I found some Quart Sized-Regular Mouthed jars at Walmart made in China and marketed as their "Mainstays" Collection. Are these junk or GTG??? Thanks

Absolute junk.
Just pure junk...
The pint size wide mouth ones are ok if you want some cheap glasses for a party. I wouldnt bet my life using them to can with. Does walmert not carry Ball anymore?
My wife brought some home when I asked her to pick up some quarts. She got them because they were just a little cheaper.
I use them to store my dehydrated veggies and powders. Not going to trust them to canning.

They do, or atleast here anyway, I think they carry minimal stock so people will be forced to buy the ww cheap stuff.
Has anyone actually tried them and had problems, or is everyone just throwing untried opinions out there?

I did try a case of them last year, almost half of them were cracked after pressure canning. I took them back but since they were "used" I got nothing back.
BTW: never had any issues with Ball jars
Another forum I visit, had a thread about them, and all agreed. junk. And No I have not seen any Ball at Wallyworld.
I've had luck with Ball, Kerr and Golden Harvest, haven't tried the Mainstays.
In my part of Texas, Ball jars seem to be both a seasonal and location-based item. The Walmarts in the lower-income areas of town and the areas outside the suburbs seem to carry jars in the late summer and fall. The stores in the suburbs and in the higher-end areas don't usually have Ball jars.
ETA: we haven't ever tried any other brands besides Ball. We have found enough of them on clearance sales for cheap that we have more than we use.
My wife picked up a case of them for like $5 on clearance last year.
They are very thin glass.
She is on a canning forum, people who tried them have had cracking issues.
She decided not to use them.
I would be more concerned about possible lead content in the glass than anything else? I believe some of the antique colored (depression era) mason jars made in the US had an unacceptably high lead content also. So don't use them either if you run across them

I had the same out come with the jars but I was doing a hot water bath. 5 out of the 7 cracked.
I didn't bother trying to take them back I just pitched the whole case.
I checked the boxes for Kerr and Ball jars I have here. Both say "for canning and freezing". That makes me think the glass is thicker and perhaps even tempered. I don't think the Mainstay product advertises that they are OK for freezing.
If you bought something at wally world and it did not work get a manager to look at it. I would make sure too get my money back. Even if it wasnt much they should return it out of principle for selling shit that dont work.
My girlfriend used a bunch of them last fall to can veggies. She had no problems with them. The lids sealed. No cracking. We're both still alive.
