 Anyone store protein powder?

I thought I had seen this discussed before, but a search turned up nothing.

I am trying to store dry food items that I will rotate regularly. I use a whey protein powder daily, and thought this might be a superior moderate term storage prep for protein intake over freeze dried when taking cost into consideration. I currently pick up 5 pound bags from Sam's club and after reading a bit on the subject it looks like they have an advertised shelf life of 1-2 years. There is only 1 gram of fat per serving with 20 grams of protein and 9 grams of carbs in this particular variety. The 1 gram of fat makes me think that this product would not be highly prone to rancidity if kept cool and dry of course.

Anyone thought about this, or put some away for their own preps? The largest macronutrient that is lacking in my current food preps is protein. I would think if stored in mylar bags with 02 absorbers, etc this might be something that would last for several years at least if stored in optimal conditions. It can be added to other foods such as oatmeal or bread. I add mine to my morning oats, and then will simply mix with water or milk at other times.

Any ideas on shelf life if stored in this manner?

My wife has an allergy to whey, but uses a soy protein powder fairly regularly as well. I am not sure of the fat content of this, but I am sure it is pretty low. I would certainly be interested in stocking up on this as well if it will keep.

I store 3x 2lb containers of whey protein, it says 2 years shelf life but if stored in ideal conditions can prob get 3-5, might start tasting like crap but wont kill ya.

I've thought about stocking up on some for the same reason. I think it would last a good long while if stored correctly, but I haven't tried it. That said, I've had good luck even with things that are not supposed to store well - like wheat flour being 3 years past date (orig package, no special storage) that still smells/tastes just fine.

I store a bit of of whey protein, usually the 6-lb bags from Costco.

Even after opening it has stayed good for a couple of years in a cool, dry place.

Have you thought about rebagging in mylar bags with an oxygen removing packet?

The stuff I buy comes in a mylar bag.

There's is free space in the bag, so it's probably nitrogen packed.
