WIth all the talk of tents. The one thing I dont have right now is sleeping / keeping the water off you options.
I was leaning towards going the hammock / rainfly route. They are relativly light weight, and are comfortable.
Rainfly
Double nest hammock
Comments or thought on this? I live in Washington nearer Puget Sound, we do see a fair bit of rainy days, but in actual amount of rainfall not so much.
In before the tarpheads swarm!
I have a singlenest and its the cat's ass. Im never sleeping on the ground again. Pro Fly > Dry Fly
my only concern with a tarp over a real tent is wind. rain by itself is pretty easy to deal with but rain and wind together is something else. I don't see how a 5X7 tarp is going to cut it when there is much in the way of wind with the rain.

Yeah, the smaller the tarp, the closer to the ground you’re going to have to go. I grew up in the PNW, near the base of the Olympic Mountains…and it can get wet!
I much prefer the hammock for temperature above 40 degrees; below that, I have to really add additional weight for insulation to reach my level of comfort. I’ve found a good 10x10 or even a 10x12 foot sil-nylon tarp to work best with a hammock. You can open the fly up to provide more coverage from the rain, or you can fold it down like an upside down taco to stave off the wind.
I much prefer a completely separate tarp/fly with my hammock (Warbonnet Blackbird), as it lets me put it up first and work under if raining and is the last thing to get taken down to keep me and my gear dry as long as possible. Also, if it is too cold to be off the ground, my backpack sleeping system will allow me to “go to ground” (if it’s not too wet), and focus on insulation and wind protection.
This “system” has allowed me the most versatile package, however I much prefer to be off the wet ground if at all possible and I get much better sleep in a hammock.
