 wow... spent the day at the state agency warehouse

this is the place where the state and fed send surplus crap to be purchased for next to nothing by state agencies. just a few goodies i saw....

pallets full of black scepter water cans... NEW 2.00 ea.

a toyota mini truck <kinda like a 3/4 size minivan looking thing> NEW with plastic still wrapped on it... 1500.00 list price 32k

NEW and a few lightly used USGI modular sleep systems... 5.00 ea.

100gal drums of 10w oil. 3 drums to a pallet.... 75.00 per pallet

this list goes on.

now i have no real issue with the fed and state selling surplus gear to municipalites at a good price. but i doubt most of these prices actually covered the cost of transportation to the warehouse. seems like they would be MUCH better served marking the prices up and selling it to the public.

we also bought a NIB US NAVY HMMV emergency light bar with ir lights, strobes and takedown lights for one of our new trucks, us navy cost 5648.00.... our price 75.00

no fucking wonder the .gov is broke.

I have always thought the same thing. let's pay 1,00.00 for something, never use it, and then sell it for 3.00.

My dept won't even put me on the list to get in the door. They know we would be so equipped we would need equipment bearers just to go on patrol.

How do you set up a 503c? Cause all these surplus stores sure are making a profit?

surplus stores aren't buying here. they are buying from governmentliquidation.com. trust me they aren't making a killer profit margin. we did that for awhile on the side.

Local State Auction house has about 12 HMMWV Pick ups sitting rotting. Demilled I'm sure and I don't know what they do to them these days. The items inside can only be purchased by government entities, Vol. Fire Companies and Boy Scout Troops. No sales to the public. I'm thinking of starting a Boy Scout Troop.

Ah, does my Den/Troop/Pack leadership tab get me in? I could outfit my whole crew with sleeping bags for $100!

In Texas, You have to be a state agency or a non profit.
Small items need to be on the books for 1 year.
Large items (m35a2's) need to be on the books for 18-24 months. After that, they can be sold.
And I don't know about GA, but in TX, if the item is over $200 then its 1/2 price.
A CUCV listed at $900 is $450. Genset for $300 is $150.

A buddy of mine that used to be with Ann Arbor Police used to get in on those kind of deals from the State of Michigan sales. Someone I know MAY have gotten a brand new M1950 Gasoline individual cook stove that cost a dollar for free.

I work in Austin, so the largest state surplus wharehouse is here;

they're best stuff used to be a 3' x 5' x 2-3' deep CRATE of knives they'd get from the airports
(DFW, Hou & Austin) Some of the knives used to run thru a federal facility at Carswell joint base first;
they didn't sort out the real knives from chineese junk; I'd get TONS os SAK's 10 for $10.00.

they usually didn't have fixed blade knives (proably got purchased on first go-round) but I'd find
some Benchmades, lots of Spydercos, Kershaws and CRKT''s.

Then they got a guy to sort them, and the prices went up, but you can still get Leathermans
for $20; I've picked up at least 10 Waves (2 black), Al Charges, ect.

The rest of the stuff they carry is hit & miss; they usually have a ton of hand tools, some good & some
not. They just started selling pistol & rifle mags, but those went quick. Glock mags, Pmags, ect for $5.00.

I picked up a set of .22lr & 22mag Single Six cylinders for, yep $5.00 bucks each.

then my buddy calls me the other day; they had Stinger flashlights w/chargers for $50.00.

it's an adventure a day.

"The Public" (you) already paid for it once. How many times would you like to pay for it? They're selling you your own stuff.
