Protein Powder as main source of protein.....

I'm sure this has been talked about, but is it a viable solution to plan on getting most of your protein post SHTF (at least till it runs out) from this source?

Yep.

The body won't metabolize it like normal meat or nut protein.

It is NOT an acceptable substitute.

The reality of it is that meat is going to be easiest thing to come by in SHTF.

I've considered keeping some on hand to supplement my stash, but I wouldn't rely on it heavily.

Under my current PT regimen the supplement powder is only accounting for about 20% of my daily protein, I am using fowl, fish, pork and alot of red meat (thank god for summer) to keep myself at about 140 Grams of protein a day

You'd be better off with powdered milk or canned veggies.

Most guys who prep could go kill 3 squirrels in a single morning and have enough protein to last two days.

I think it is a possible source of fairly high quality protein, but not sure it's the best option for most from an economic standpoint. Protein powders are not very cheap, usually about .60-.70 for 20-25 grams worth. That's the same amount of protein as you would find in about three glasses of milk or about 1.5 cups of pinto beans. the beans would be a good bit cheaper, the milk would be more versatile ( although possibly more expensive per gram than whey) . Both of these are readily available and have a long shelf life, which makes them a better option for LTS.

If you use it now, I see no harm in storing a few bags and rotating through it. I use protein powder several days a week post-workout. Some of that stuff is darned tasty. I like ONs gold standard double chocolate and often use it in my cereal instead of milk. If you don't use it now, then I'm not sure it makes good economic sense I think my stuff has a 2-3 yr "official" shelf life.

As far as meat hunting for protein: I'm on the border of the burbs and even though I have deer frequent my backyard I believe any protein on the hoof will be severely thinned out in a couple of weeks post-crisis. Get what you can quickly, but don't count on seeing much after a week or two. Even those in rural areas will get the easy stuff first. After that, it's possible to burn more calories looking for small game than you would yield from their harvest. I believe If you spend much more than an hour walking to try and bag a squirrel you're going backwards on the calorie expenditure scale.
