Most of people prefer older easy to work on trucks as BOVs and of course they are cheap . Heres a video of a cheap truck challenge to show what the older iron is capable of .So with a little bit of money you can have a cable offroad vehicle capable of getting you where you need to go .

For what its worth the challenge was set up for some one on a budget , I think they should have docked points for the bronco having reliability issues .
I wish I had an extra $2000 to put into my BOV.
Yeah , Im about to spend that much on a 2nd vehicle of mine , but Ive been making $50 "payments" on mine for a while and once I get every thing together Im going to do a partial drive train swap . Once thats done Im going to do the same to my DD/ family BOV /camper puller to do about 2500 in upgrades . But in the grand scheme of things its fairly easy to put back some upgrade money if you are patient and stick to make payments on it .
Just watched that. was pretty good. My BOV is a 1985 F250
Very cool video. I think that off road capability is an over emphasized need in a bov. Reliability is paramount IMHO.
Mine.
Hard to beat straight six reliability and a jeep offroad IMO.
Fuel injected. But can go back to a carb in about 20 minutes if it came up.

I do agree that reliability is king but off road capability can be very important depending on BOL , route or conditions .
