Cannabis as a prep
I couldn't find any threads mentioning this in the forums, and thought it would be interesting to discuss. I apologize if this has been done.
I know this may not fit in with the standard mindset around here, but I think Cannabis (Marijuana for those who prefer the term given the plant by the DEA to make it seem more dangerous) could actually be an incredibly useful prep, and would like to hear what you guys think.
Beyond the obvious barter benefits of actual cannabis buds (similar to storing liquor for barter), hemp is a very useful plant. If you aren't familiar with it's many uses, I suggest taking a look through
this list over at Wikipedia. It seems to me that storing a wide variety of cannabis / hemp seeds would be a great longterm prep. A decent hemp field could provide food, housing, clothing, rope, and even fuel. It grows very fast, and doesn't take much in the way of fertilizers or maintenance. It actually does grow like a weed.
Does anyone currently store seeds? Does anyone store buds? Any tips or thoughts?
Edit: To be clear, I am not referring to storing 'pot' to 'smoke'. I am talking primarily about storing hemp seeds to use for clothing, food, and shelter.

Sure - Don't do it. There's no point in stocking up for preparedness if you're in jail when the unexpected happens.

You also give up your rights to own a firearm for possession of Marijuana, IIRC.
Even with a Colorado medical license, you'd be allowed no more than 2 ounces. That's not much of a stockpile.
I really don't think a few seeds at the bottom of your pile of preps is going to land you in jail...
i think discussing illegal activities is probably coc violation op.

this....
and Id LOVE to see that article head line... Man with arsennal of guns and ammo and food found trying to grow pot
Seriously? I know a lot of you are law enforcement types, but come on.. I am not actively promoting breaking the law. Guess I shouldn't be too surprised though, was just hoping for a bit more open-mindedness.
I am talking about storing seeds of a plant, and planting said seeds _after_ civilization has collapsed. If you're worried about breaking laws at that point...
There is no love for it here, at all.
Smoking/condoning the use of marijuana = you're a liberal idiot here.
But yea, i bet you could barter with it POST TEOTWAWKI
Once again, I am not even talking about smoking it. I am talking about a useful plant for agricultural purposes. Since it's obvious no one bothered to click the link, I will paste the summary here.
Hemp is used for a wide variety of purposes including the manufacture of cordage of varying tensile strength, durable clothing and nutritional products. The bast fibers can be used in 100% hemp products, but are commonly blended with other organic fibers such as flax, cotton or silk, for apparel and furnishings, most commonly at a 55%/45% hemp/cotton blend. The inner two fibers of hemp are more woody and are more often used in non-woven items and other industrial applications, such as mulch, animal bedding and litter. The oil from the fruits ("seeds") oxidizes (commonly, though inaccurately, called "drying") to become solid on exposure to air, similar to linseed oil, and is sometimes used in the manufacture of oil-based paints, in creams as a moisturizing agent, for cooking, and in plastics. Hemp seeds have been used in bird seed mix as well.[17] Hempseed is also used as a fishing bait.
Hey we're just trying to subtly let you know this topic is fubar. We don't care how you personally interpret the law and justify shit in your own mind.
Look up the code of conduct for the forum, rule 4 specifically.
Doesn't sound like a good idea from a legal stand-point. When they find you with the "devil-weed" can't they just start confiscating your firearms at that point?
And isnt it a plant? Long term storage issues come to mind such as mold and other nastys.
Sounds like too much risk for no real gain...

Do you think it makes a difference to Johnny Law?

And unless you are setting up to make clothes and plastic toys out of it come SHTF, what real benefit does it have over ANYTHING else?
Once again, lots of negatives (prison, no more guns, expanded pooper (from prison)) and no real positives.

I
am talking about making clothes (and rope, and fuel, etc) with it after SHTF. Was that not clear?
As far as benefits over other things, as I mentioned, it is extremely easy to grow just about anywhere, requiring few pesticides and no herbicides. It can provide food, paper, even weed control for the rest of your crops. But I guess that wouldn't be useful at all huh?
If you're so worried about clothing material after SHTF, store cotton seed.

so you're only talking about it because you plan on making clothes and rope...
right....
