Looking for the kind that are used for water coolers.
What is the going rate?
Where do you buy them?
How long can they be stored before the water gets nasty inside?

I've bought empty or full ones from WM. and grocery stores then emptied them to store food. The deposit is about $8. Full bottles are abt $14. But with gas prices going up maybe water has gone up too.

It's a little difficult to get empties this way. I've called the bottled water companies and haven't had any success.

The reason I wanted them is to store food.

The "TRIANGLE 1" plastic is similar to mylar as far as their permeability to oxygen.

Avoid "TRIANGLE 3"

Very likely a LONG time. I drink my own RO water all the time and I've left a bottle out and came back 5 or 6 months later and drank it just to see.

I use an old O2 concentrator and take the exhaust that has had the O2 removed and fill my containers with that gas. Also throw in an O2 absorber or two depending on the size of the container.

I saw them for about the same price at the grocery store....$15 ish per bottle.
Didnt know if that was normal or if there is a cheaper way.

I am leaning toward 3 gallons per person per day...maybe rotate 1 five gallon bottle out each 6 months, to keep the supply fresh.

Anyone storing water in these?
Would a 55 gallon drum make more sense?

Greatest thing since sliced bread for SHTF in-home water storage. For perm, in-home? Get 55gal drums. Less obtrusive? I like empty 1gal gatorade bottles, they dont fall apart like 1gal plastic jugs. And for 5gal, get the blue cube shaped kind, NOT the fake WalMart jerry cans. The fake jerries split/leak almost immediately. Never used the 5gal office bottles....

I scored 3 empty 5 gallon water cooler bottles at work a couple of years back. I've stored water in them using the original caps that came with it. I use filtered tap water. I put the bottles inside black trash bags to prevent algea growth due to sunlight. I store them in my garage. I have not had any problems with the water.

With the 5 gallon bottles you do have portability and can be stored inside the home.

The water company that delivers to my telco office switched the type of bottle they use.

The new one has a handle integrated into the side. I asked the delivery guy what they did with the old bottles. He said they are stacked up in the warehouse.

I asked if they were for sale.

He said, ya how many do you want for a buck a piece?

I took 5 since I already had 3 at home.

You might check directly with your local bottled water service.

Get one of these to go with your bottles.

Just rinse and reuse 2L soda bottles. Store them in the bottom of your freezer and then your freezer will run more efficiently and you can have cold water as soon as it thaws.
