Great pics as usual. Your reports make me wish I lived in ID.
growing up In hawaii I have caught many beautiful salt water fish, those you caught are absolutely gorgeous looking. What species are they? I may give freshwater fishing a try here in Fl. someday...

You aren't kidding!
What a great adventure for Jake! Thanks for posting this.
My grandfather and grandmother taught me and my brothers how to fish at a young age and we would do it all the time together. Mostly the great lakes for northern pike or walleye. It was (and still is) quite a bonding experience even if you aren't successful on the fish. My younger brother has a son, also by the name of Jake, that is 7 now but he has been steeped in the family fishing tradition and he loves to come to my place and fish my pond (he has pretty much exclusive rights). He hasn't learned how to fly fish yet, but he can tie his own lines, bait his hooks and take his catch off. My bass are kinda dumb too and it makes it pretty easy for him to have a successful and fun fishing day every time.
What I wouldn't give to have that kind of scenery your Jake has in my back yard! It's beautiful! And you are teaching your son so very well. He won't forget that day.

They are a subspecies of rainbow trout commonly called a redband trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss gairdneri).
