 Successful search for a unicorn

Trout fishing has been off for a month now with the heavy rains so when I heard rumors of some atlantic salmon in the river up north I got the bug and had to go. I only had about 2 hours to fish and the first hour was spent catching small salmon smolts but not really seeing signs of the larger fish. I decided to head up to a likely spot before calling it a day and sure enough they were in there. I spotted one here and there but didn't have any luck until I came upon a small pod of atlantics, about 6 fish. With 5 minutes one slammed my black wolly bugger. Great fight for a fish that size, took me for a bit of a walk after he took off into the riffle water. I'm not sure if anyone else calls them unicorns or not but up here skaminas and atlantics are called unicorns during the summer months because so many people fish for years without seeing one. I officially have bragging rights even though the size is no where near the kings I catch come october. I was happy just to see them, but actually hooking and landing one of these beautiful and somewhat rare fish was just amazing.

I could go on all day, but instead I'll shut up and post pics

How can you tell if it's an Atlantic or a steelie or king?

Its an atlantic, one thing I've understood (and I could be wrong) is that kings never have spots below the lateral line.

coloring is also a good way to determine the species but it is not a perfect science. The atlantics tend to look more and more like browns the longer they stay in the river.
