I bought a stainless steel Stiletto prop off craigslist and can't seem to get it to fit. The diameter and pitch are correct as is the number of spline teeth, but I can't get the prop on far enough to properly seat. It looks like the hub teeth inside the hub are too big to fall into the grooves. I think I bought a prop with the wrong hub but if I can knock the old one out I could buy the correct hub and all should be good. I took a screw driver and a hammer and started seeing if the hub would come out but nothing so far. I don't want to keep beating on it unless I'm sure it can come out. I can't find a customer service number for Stiletto and I wanted to ask here before I take it up to West Marine and see what they can tell me.
prop number says 10319 (Mercury Mariner Force). I have an OMC sterndrive
Is the hub rubber with a splined insert? Or is it plastic, also with a splined insert? The rubber hubs aren't user replacable.
ETA–– I found a pic on the internetz...it has a rubber hub. Sell it and try again.
ETA#2–– What drive is this specifically? Is it a Cobra, King Cobra, SX or strigner drive? What year is the drive? The SX series uses 19 splines and the older Cobras and stringers use a 15 spline IIRC. The proper thrust washer must be used also.
sorry for the delay in responding.
shoot, I was hoping for the replaceable hub. I have a 1987 Cobra drive. The splines match up but the friggen prop wont fully seat (which is because it is the completely wrong hub) so I put it on craigslist. I got it for $75 so I'm confident I can get my money back on it fairly quickly. Bummer. I went for it because the diameter and pitch were correct, as were the number of splines. Oh well, if only I had a Mercury!
