Last weekend, I installed my new Aquatics AV DVD3. I previously had two DVD1 units that have been replaced under warranty. Jim @ BOE once again did a fantastic job getting me an upgrade for my two previous defective units.
My impressions of the DVD3 unit is that it is far superior to the DVD1. The buttons work better. The connectors are higher quality. The unit seems more solid than the previous two DVD1 units. The DVD3 has all the features of the DVD1 plus more. The DVD3 has an IPOD interface and reads standard SD cards with MPEG4. The DVD3 is worth the extra money over the DVD1.
I have been impressed by the Garmin 4212. The screen is big and bright. The unit is very easy to use. My only complaint is the unit does not show the DVD on full screen. But now that I have used the unit, that is not really an issue. The combinations allow me to show the movie while keeping track of weather and depth. This lets my 7 year old watch movies at the same time I keep all my gps, weather, time, depth, etc on screen.
I had the ceiling cut out of my cc and a hatch fabricated. I then mounted the GSD22 and GSD30A to the hatch. This gives full access to the electronics. My friend brought me some panduit channel to clean up the installation. It turned out quite well.
I have the 4210 on my work boat, it is fantastic. The other agencies make fun of us for having it on a 20' CC but we go off shore alot. The new boat I spec-ed out will have the 5212.
