Fish the local trout and redfish tournaments. Payout is usually $1100-1300 for top trout and the redfish tournament is 2 man $3,000 - $1,500 - $500, 1st 2nd 3rd.
About it, had a 6.22lb/26.5inch red this year but couldn't get the 2nd one.
I use to fish the Triple Challenges here back when it all started over here years ago. First tourny we fished in my 14 foot john boat with 9.9 Johnson. Whipped about 200 other fishermen that day. We placed I think fifth over all.
Nope. Fishing is about de-stressing/relaxation, not about competition. I compete five days a week. Fishing is about getting away from that.

I have fished in the Bisbees black and blue tournament in Cabo San Lucas MX. It is about 1 million for first place fishing for black and blue marlin only. $25,000 entry fee at the time I fished it in 1996.
My dad and I used to fish marlin tournaments but figured it wasn't worth the loss of entry fee if nothing bit. Caught a lot more fish when there wasn't money on it. I guess what really broke the camel's back was one time we paid entry then ran over some boards on the run out and bent up props so didn't fish at all.
