Will a Cur make for a decent blood dog?

I got a blackmouth bitch this weekend. Approx 8 weeks.
She is intended to be a family dog, but we also have a large ranch down the road. Wife ruled out GSD and insurance carrier ruled out a Rott. I wanted a dog that has decent watch/guard characteristics, but could also bang around with me on the ranch.
While our property is positively covered in hogs, we don't run dogs as not to harass our deer and turkey population.
I do have the occasional need for a blood dog. Once or twice a year - usually during archery, we have a need for a dog, and my friends are hit and miss.

Will a Cur fit the bill? And, if so, please direct me to some resources for training. Information here seems practical, but other advice?

My pup's dad is a legitimate hog dog and the mom is just a general ranch dog. I know it depends on the training and concentration of a particular dog, but are hot deer and hog trails more likely to throw off a Cur than other, more dedicated blood breeds?

Any reason I shouldn't take a stab at it?

Thanks,

Keib
