Any recommendations on a trail camera he can hang on a tree for about $100?
i have one of these
stealth cam with the IR flash. takes video or pix. records time, temp and moon phase on the pix/video.
a great deal!
I had a stealthcam IR that died after being waterlogged....to be fair it was alomost a monsoon.
After owning a few different models I found the moultree to be the easiest menu to navigate- good pics. The cuddeback to be the best pictures worst menu, the stealthcam to be in between ok menu - lots of false triggers but good pics when they captured
Do him a favor and get a 2g SD card and a remote battery. I used an old transformer cord that fit the battery input and hooke it to 2 6 volt lantern batteries in serries ( neg cord to neg - pos to neg - pos to pos cord ) to produce 12 volts. the 6 c batteries got expensive and lasted at most a week. The remote lasts 3-4 months.
Other accesories to considder are security box and better locking cable.
I modify my security boxes to use a ratchet strap and then the security cable goes through it to the lock wich also locks the door.
Once you have one, you'll want more. I have a total of 11 cameras now.
I think I love trail cams as much as hunting, you never know what you will see;

Nice little 8 point
Didn't even know these guys were around
He will love it. I don't know enough about brands to tell you anything meaningful. Both of mine have worked fine. One was about 100 bucks, and one was 149, so you should have no problem finding one for 100.
