 Those little camping tripod stools.

I see them all over the place and was wondering how much they actually support?

Most of us in our crew are big giant lumbering ape-men (300#) and have a real tough time with those stupid, flimsy-wimsy little camp chairs that end up bending and breaking when standing up out of them (they sort of force you to put your hands on the cupholders and push down, leading to the old bend-and-snap).

I've had great success with one for the past 8-9 months, using it as a footrest to keep my foot & leg elevated following
surgery. In fact, I have my foot on it now. Just about perfect for office use!

Would I park my butt on it? Not unless I wanted it for a wedgie, or wanted to sit on the ground, in a sudden & probably painful manner!

I haven't seen one yet, that didn't look like it would suddenly dump me and my dinner plate on the ground.

Maybe this would work.

Super Heavy Duty Portable Folding 22" Walkstool XL

My brother is heavy and has broken several of those traditional folding camp/party chairs. We have found a few that while more expensive were also able to support more weight.

I do not think the approach mentioned is an inappropriate way to get into and out of a chair. It does put a lot of stress on the chair. I encourage you to develop another approach.

In addition, I have noticed that the chairs sag, people become uncomfortable in them, and some, as mentioned, demonstrate difficulty getting up from the chairs. Accordingly, I have conducted experiments using self inflating seats (or chair kits) in conjunction with the folding chairs. It seems that such provides significant additional support, greater comfort, and aides in the user getting back up.

Consider a folding chair like this...

Add/insert something like this for additional support and comfort.

For me they are essential to pack a while and sit in a brush blind for hours. I don't think mine has a brand on it but I've had it for years and sit up past my waist in water on regularly. I couldn't hunt the way I do without them.

Try LivingXL for seating options. I've bought a couple from them.

For $130 it should give you a massage too.

I disagree... complete. $130? It would take a lot more than that for me support someone weighing between 300# and 400# sitting on me.

If you want or expect the unusual, you gotta pay.

It would be better to lose some weight , live longer, enjoy life more, and not have to pay a premium for specialized products.

I have a cheaper one that I use for shorter, easier backpacking trips when we pack heavier. It works great for me at 170. Although I had since bought a chair kit for my sleeping pad so I have some back support.

If you double that weight, I think you would be in ballpark of guys in the original post.

I have a small Coleman Exponent four legged stool, that I got for around $20 a few years back, that thing has been awesome and only weighs around 1lb.
