Effect of the movie 300 English paper

I know I use this site a lot for my college classes and for that I'm sorry but I'm not the best with Google and I haven’t been to school for about 8 years. Any ways first a general English writing question. We're supposed to use 50% of our supporting arguments from articles or what not. Does the intro/thesis paragraph and the conclusion paragraph usually have to have sources in them too or just the body paragraph?

And now as you can guess I decided to write a paper on the movie 300, the assignment was an argument paper on what the best movie was. Anyways my main argument is that the movie 300 has Changed American military, LE, and physical fitness and sports culture but injecting a strong Spartan mentality. But I can’t seem to find any articles to quote from to back this up. I’m finding a shitload of hippy anti-war/anti-military articles and I found a couple on the Spartan 300 workout but I’m stuck and its due tomorrow by midnight.

So can anyone help me out?

Thanks a lot.

I am not sure that is the case, the concept of combat fitness, etc pre-date the movie by decades. I remember all the way back to Gen Gray as CMC and his attempt replace the PFT with the Physical Readiness Test almost 30 years ago.

I don’t mean it created it. Just that it’s created a new type of motivation to be a warrior and to be hard. I’ve also seen it on several motivational posters throughout the Army and Memos, speeches, and not to mention moral patches and tattoos. So it’s had a pretty big influence but what I’ve seen I can’t quote and use as a source lol Also Its just an argumentative paper and I had to pick a movie I like a lot that I felt I could write 7 pages on lol. I’m a pretty big movie buff, I have about 600 DVDs and almost the same in Blu-ray’s so asking me to pick the best movie isn’t possible because it depends on my mood. But this one I could argue an interesting point for.

Maybe it was an Army thing, but I was required to read the Gates of Fire in the 90s and watching the 300 Spartans in PME in the late 80s

Well Im not saying it caused some sort of drastic change, but it has influenced it like I said with tattoos and patches and what not. I have a patch on my own PC and one put away that I thought looked cool but cant wear.

Pics of 10th Mountain posters in AF

By the way, take note of the really, hugely fat guy walking past the fitness sign into the gym. And he appears to be eating.

and a phone lol

Unfortunately, like I said, I can’t use pics as a source or quote. Unless I can, if I can someone please tell me now.

I know the Spartan thing has been around as a motivator for a long time, but 300 gave it a big boost. And also I have to write about a movie lol so I need help with articles that support my argument weather it’s completely right or wrong.

Also some input on the English writing questions would be appreciated.

Thanks again

Dustin

well it took 9/11 to get this country fired up, ready to kick appropriate ass. a direct off shoot, being the 300 movie that came out during that time.
I recall in reception our platoon were A. Co. Spartans.
our call to attention was the line from the movie"300"
DS: Marano: COMPANY!!!! ATTEN––-HUH!!!!
DS:Marano- "Spartan's WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSION?"
US: AHHHH HOO!!!! AHHHOOO!!!! AHHHOOO!!!!
we're soldiers, MARINES, Airmen, Sailors, etc.. we're a warrror class compared to the rest of the population. We represent the greatest fighting force the modern world has ever known. Our warriror bravado was earned on the fields of Saratoga, the shores of Tripoli, the skies over midway and the oceans of the pacific.

The Marine Corps has using the Spartan analogy for a long time, the book American Spartans about the Marine Corps came out at the same time as the movie. We had units that used Spartan as their call signs as long as I have been in the service

The study of warrior societies such as the Spartans, Zulus, Apache and the Marine Raiders from WWII is integrated into our MCMAP.
The visuals of the movie 300 are outstanding but Gates of Fire brings home the aches and pain of life as a warrior.

I would agree that it heavily influenced and reenforced the warrior ethos and mindset that is nessasary to do the jobs that we do. Whether we are Military LE or Overseas contractor, we love out country, communities and families, and are ready willing and often times called upon to protect and sometimes spill our blood to protect. Look at the unit patches, companys and products that are in some way connected to the movie.
I am by no means some high speed door kicker, but I do keep guys like that safe and able to return home to what they left behind. I think those for the most part in the Military or LE take it as serious as the spartans probably did years ago.

The practice of attempting to inject the Spartan tradition into the American military is far from a new phenomenon. The posters you're seeing are only using graphics that appear to come from the movie becasue those film images are a new manifestation of the idea, to which young soldiers can relate. I'd be willing to wager that the Brigade who uses those posters has been calling itself the Spartans for a long time.

As an aside, if you're attempting to write an argumentative paper, supported by outside sources, and are unable to find sources which support your position, you might want to rethink your thesis, as it's arguably a flawed argument.
