 ACU's nametapes

I picked up some sew-on name and service tapes for my ACU shirts so I will no longer look like I have rotten bacon on my chest, but one more quick question before I run to the tailor - are we allowed to also sew on the name tape on the back of the patrol cap? The bulletin says "name tape" but nothing that I could see specifically about the PC.

IDK but I have been doing it for a year now with no issues.

I've been doing it since late '06.

I was also told with this new reg, sewing your name on the PC is good to go.

Yeah but now I think it will look cleaner with all that Velcro torn off the ACU top and the back of the name tape.

Lol, is there any other way to sew a name on a PC? Step 1 - Cut the inside of the top out. Step 2. strip the fuzzy and sew a normal name tape. Step 3. Roll the brim and Ranger Roll the top

No one has said a thing to me since '06 about the PC. I guess it is nice to be back in regs though... I will say the tops look better now though. Amazing how one little thing can make you feel so different.

Shit, I'll just be happy to be no longer destroying the flag patch by catching it on the outboard corner of my nametape.

The people I saw that did it, left the velcro on because they wanted to appear like it could still come off with out a CSM/SGM pointing it out so quickly. People still do that now and I think its mostly laziness now.

Wait, what? They just sew the name tape on, complete with velcro? They should be thrashed by their NCO's. If they're the ones doing it, someone in that chain should be vigorously correcting it.

The way that I understand it, is that if you sew on your name tapes, your rank must be as well.

Also, sew on name tapes on PCs are good to go.

Like others said, I've been doing this for a while.

Unless you're a PV2 or PVT, your rank should be sewn on. Maybe a PFC can get away with not doing it but any time after that is unacceptable IMO.

I was talking about chest rank.

But yeah, after PV2 it's retarded to continue pinning it on, if nothing else it's uncomfortable as all hell.

Lol, ok then. That makes sense. My biggest worry about getting the chest rank sewn on was the mama san sewing it like a PC. There was a distinct lack of communication b/w us.

She got it right though. My only gripe is she used black thread to sew it on instead of something light. But that's not really too big of a deal.

All the sew shops around here have the asian family from lethal weapon 4 running them, and they like to argue with you about how things should be done.

went in to get a civilian jacket's sleeves lengthened (I'm tall with lanky arms, i wear a Large, but have to get XL everything to make sure its long enough in the arms) and they argued with me on how much material I wanted added.

This. I got enough new tapes to last me forever for less than $20. It amazes me how some people can be both cheap and stupid...no wait, it doesn't.

Current reg for sewing is: 1) remove velcro and sew it on. 2) leave velcro on and sew on. 3) don't sew anything

It's funny about the PC's, because the same NCO's who would flip out that you sewed it on (prior to it being 'authorized') are the same ones who were running around ten years ago having aneurisms when they saw a nametape or cat eyes sewn on the back of a woodland PC.

Retards.

Funny it was the NCO's doing it, then again leadership in my unit is retarded. In my old company we told an E5 to go get an exhaust sample from the LMTV. What was scary is he did it, and he was Mechanic. Our CO would set ruck marches at a pace no one could keep, funny he bitched about yet, his rucksack didn't look like it was filled with as much shit as ours. He talked about the Marine Corp like he was USMC infantry and was a bad ass. Then someone found out he was a cook in the Corp. He came into the Army as an Ordinance Officer and as soon as he re-classed into the 31 series field, he thought he was even more bad ass. The 1SG almost beat his ass when two weeks before were supposed to deploy he wanted us to go the field for 10 days. He told him "Sir if you weren't an Officer I'd beat the shit out of you".

Follow-up: on the day of the original post, I was working my day job and had brought two ACU shirts and a PC, along with the required tapes, to my office with me. There's a sew shop in town that is about two miles from my office but about twelve from my house, so I thought I would drop them off on my way home.

1700, I am walking out the door when my phone rang. My NG unit got called up for hurricane duty. Good thing I hadn't gone earlier.

Fast forward a week and a half, I am home and dropped the uniforms off yesterday. Thank you all for the input.
