Anybody ever been to the Air force base in Misawa Japan??
Any info on the base or local hot spots would be welcome.

Aomori is nearby, the best damn apples you will ever have in your life.
Sushi/Sashimi in Hachinohe will be amazing and after you leave Japan it will never be the same...
I was there back in '94...
I'm sure it's grown up in all those years. The people I've talked to with more recent experience love it.
We used to have a Navy P-3 Det up there but I dunno anymore, havent been there since 2005. Its a nice quiet area with great sushi outside the gate.
Stationed there from 1963 until 1965 with the 6921 Scty Sqd. Ap alley as I knew it burned down and was rebuilt so I can't tell you anything about it now. I did enjoy my time over there and had the pleasure of sitting through 3 earthquakes. Jap beer is good and the local food was good. Since you will be about 400 miles north of Tokyo you will see the Japan that tourists never see.
I have a friend there working in the Hospital... Maybe you'll run across him sometime.
He doesn't seem to like Japan all that much, though. He says Misawa is a boring place.
My brother is currently there, with 35th Fighter Wing. Judging by his Facebook posts, he doesn't stay home very often. He's always hiking, diving, or visiting some shrine. Of course, his job has him TDY quite a bit, too.
Well, if they still let you PARTY till it's time for work. But that was years ago, and I was much, much younger. Seriously, I hope they are giving some sort of cost of living allowance. It pretty much sucked in the late 60's early 70's.
