82nd guys.......CID going door to door for guns?

Anyone heard this rumor?
Buddy of mine mentioned this to me......one of those 'a friend of a friend told me" things, but the story is
that due to some study about returning troops "going postal", they've been going (very quietly) around
looking for unregistered guns.
Anyone heard this?

You don't register guns in NC
If you live on post yes
If you live in the Barracks they have to be stored in the Arms room, but most keep their guns at a buddies house.
CID cannot enter private residence off post just to look for POW's.
